Very small cactus ID request (in flower)

Question

My housemate got this at a CSSSA show a year or so ago and promptly lost the name tag.

The cactus itself used to be about 3 times taller than this, (about 6-7cm total - it's now about 2cm tall at most). It's in flower today and has beautiful pink flowers! :drool2: I assume the energy it takes it to flower has made it shrink quite a lot.

The pot is about 6cm wide.

If people can help with an ID that'd be great!

do you have a clearer picture of the flower, pistil in particular? As gunter indicated, the spination looks like an echinocereus but I'm thinking more along the lines of rebutia or gymnocalycium

Im heading home from the botanic gardens now. I'll put up a better pic shortly as long as it's still open.

If it helps; when it was taller it was the same width as now, so looked like a tiny columnar rather than the globular look of most gymnocalyciumsmI'm aware of.

Unfortunately the flowers have closed now. A change came in whilst I was on my way home and the sunshine has disappeared a bit. I'll check them in the morning and see if they open again.

Nice flower. Groth type reminds me of Gymnocalcyium. Like G. Bruchii for example. But there are some inconsisties. bye EG

Having a look at pics and remembering the one Gymno I have that's flowered in the past, this one has tufts of grey hair on the flower tubes and the gymno's I've seen have smooth/scaly looking flower tubes with no hair, so I'm kind of thinking echinocereus is most likely closest at the mo. I'll see if I can get a better pic of the open flower tomorrow.

And this one is flowering from the side, not the top.

That's no Gymno! The stem of them would be naked and without any kinds of hair/spines. Rebutia would be the same aswell.

I'd say Echinocereus of some sort from the spines on the flower stem.

Thinking about it I have one out in the collection that very much resembles this ones growth but it's yet to flower and came without any kind of tag.
