New Aztekium species Aztekium valdezii

Recommended Posts

I just found out about this new Aztekium species. I was only aware of riterii and hintonii. Have any of you heard of this or are any of you growing it?

Here's a paper on it. http://xerophilia.ro/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/AZTEKIUM-VALDEZII.pdf

I would love to get my hands on some seed. If I would have heard about this earlier I would have tried to get some seed before sowing my other aztekium seed.

They look like little alien creatures buried in the mud! Awesome.

I heard of this cactus 6 months ago thru xerophilia. The seeds have been on sale for atleast 3-4 month now thru a czech site. The seeds are around 7 dollars each at the moment. They have appeared cheaper recently on the popular auction site however I wouldn't trust those seeds.

I was gonna get some seeds however they were sold out at the time I made my order however they have now returned.

Yeah , they are trying to keep a cap on the location , but they are also trying hard to get seeds out to collectors and vendors in order to discourage poaching . I have seen seeds going on a few auction sites already .

Same here. Thay are SPENDY! I might have a trade in order here soon. I see some people from the czech republic selling plants on ebay too. I'm guessing they're poached,

I would hope that people haven't already poached this species , we don't even know the full extent of it's population yet. As a collector I'm happy , but I wouldn't have minded waiting five years before they released the discovery to the public, if it meant keeping the species from vanishing from the fucking earth.

I will do my best to get the seeds into circulation locally if I manage to get my hands on some , if it even matters at this point.

I have some riterii and hintoni growing from seed. I actually successfully grafted one to a pereskiopsis from seed. But these god damn fucking thrips munched on it and dehydrated it. :( I also have a small plant grafted onto a myrtillocactus (riterii)

The valdezii seeds on ebay are like $250 for 100 seeds or $30 for 10 seeds.

How old are your plants? We have a few riteriis on spach grafts, usually get 5-10 years old then die, bastard things.

I have a A. hintonii on its own roots, that flowered a couple of times in 2014. And a A. ritteri that is grafted - it has made some moderate growth, but has never flowered - but grafted plants seldom do.

theyre sneaky flowerers, I've only had one flower on one of my 2 grafted ritterii.. and only noticed it after it had shut

I have 1 hintonii own roots but it's never flowered ... but then, I've only had them since earlier this year.

I give them 5-6X strength tomato feed when i water them though

My grafted plants flower like mad. Way more than my own roots ones since they flower all year round.

love how they gold plated seeds for storage B)

and will definitely be in it for the long haul ....

and honoured to do my bit towards: "controlled breeding efforts to mitigate the effects that could occur by illegal collection of plants"

here's some out-sourced porn to keep us going in the mean time till we can make our own

rawrz i very much look forward to that happening on my grafts...

thanks H

maybe I'll be able to hone the flowering skills once I learn more about stocks.. I think mine are on tricho's, but whatever they are , they apear to be the best stock for a heated tank, myrtillos hate it in there n so did jusbertii

still growing peresk' outside and in the GH too for futures down her path..

I'll take a picpost-14443-0-36457700-1418840006_thumb.j , maybe will try again later when the lights come on in the Ixtlahuatlpost-14443-0-11875300-1418864363_thumb.jpost-14443-0-21778100-1418864368_thumb.jpost-14443-0-55396600-1418864391_thumb.j

look fwd to any of your guy's aztekium porn too

and grateful to, recieve/further-share, any help/info I can get/aquire; in having all 3 flowering away like mad eventually and covered in fly shit (like on zelly's phwoaaarn)...i mean seeds :innocent_n:

it's nice to read that their upkeep becomes very easy if you can get them through their preliminary years

and lol , anything with the word Aztek involved draws me like a magnet

Some of us do grow them, with a degree of success.

My A. hintonii, blooming in July 2014.
