Out for that ;)

All the women in my family are nurses, I've worked in the health industry myself so I have an inkling of what goes on. Anyways first workshop starts tomorrow night :) it's in gilgandra which is the base of western nsw ambo region apparently, which also seems to be home of a huge fuck off cactus nursery, glad I've got a few bob left over from my pay :)

Edit- I must say I've enjoyed the online learning, it hasn't been a hassle to pick up and I really actually find it interesting which is rare for me :)

Now let me at them life sized dummy's ! :P

Glad to hear about your new career path - quite admiral in my eyes! Hope you find it way more rewarding than say, previous soul destroying social service positions you've worked before

Best wishes.

Cheers man nah wasn't soul destroying I learned a fuckload working in social work and drug and alcohol, will all help with this path if I keep being into it :) first weekend went pretty well, was awesome each student had a paramedic of ten plus yrs experience the whole time with them to help with learning, to practice on etc. learning a heap but there SO MUCH to learn, paramedics seem like pretty cool cats so far, by his they have a morbid sense of humour though. Interesting that they use ketamine now as well in their pain killer kit. 200mg doses which I though was pretty light on. Even got measured up for uniforms hopefully chicks dig it :)

All the paramedics took us out on Sunday night to the rsl club and got pretty drunk they where putting shit on me for wanting to go to my motel after three beers as I was falling asleep. Seems ambos do like to partay!

This weekend we are learning all about administering gases as painkillers :D this weekends all about painkillers really... God really does have a sense if humour.

Awesome to hear your enjoying it mate.

That and the fact your finding your studies easy are all good signs your going to enjoy the experience.

I might have to get you round to administer some gasses or keto when I am in pain ;)

Incog your calm, level headed and compassionate presence is one I'd be really comfortable with at the scene of any emergency. Glad you're doing this <3

Aww thanks dl : ) I'm gonna try my bestest :) lucky I've for some awesome teachers, in a pretty fortunate position really, how's the rural fire service going? I imagine your sharp wits and open mind would be a great asset to the service.

I'm not

Counting my chickens until I actually go out on the frontline, I guess until I have to deal with a pretty nasty real life situation I will know if I'm cut out for it. Time will tell.

I think you'll be right. I tend to get more worried about people who don't prepare for the worst. Usually it's the guys who say "it won't be a problem/too easy etc." are the ones who struggle when faced with the tough times.

Also what I should have said first is, you should be really proud of yourself. It takes some courage to change career paths no matter how many times you have done it. No matter what happens I think your life and future will be better for the experience.

Actually I'm prolly a bit different, I usually change jobs every two to three years, mostly of my own choice lol I get bored easily in a workplace, sometimes colleagues and bosses piss me off that I leave but I think I've grown past that point, usually it's because I'm bored, social work ground me down but mainly because there's no referral services out here and your really limited to what u can do for people without the agency's needed to assist. But anyways I'm hoping and praying to the jebus and Buddha and satan that this is my calling lol I've tried out nearly every job u can think off, and I'm running out of time!

yeah I have always got bored with things quickly. I have also changed many jobs in my time, although probably not as many as you when I notice how experienced in life you are. While some people find job opportunities dry up as they get older many of them can be quite stuck in their ways. You have an open mind and great attitude which will always give you a better chance than others.

I cant tell you how many people I have interviewed for positions at my old work and you get plenty of old guys come in and just dictate their terms to you. Finding someone with the calm, level head and reasoning that comes with age, coupled with life experience yet still retaining a positive youthful attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to learn can be rare. you are more valuable to potential employers than you probably realize.

pray to jebus and the like to cover all bases if you choose :) but you should rest easy knowing you have worked hard to equip yourself with every tool to make anything that was meant to be a success :)

Your an awesome dude rigger :) thanks and shucks.i would love half of your appraisal of me to be true :) I've got ALOT of things I need to work on in both my own self and the way I relate to others, but I guess we are all human and will always have our negative and positive attributes which will fluctuate in percentage and area. If this path don't workout who knows what I'll try next, maybe mime I dunno. Maybe I'll win the lotto and start my own porn company. Porn and mine are two areas I've always been interested in exploring. Perhaps I could integrate the two.

Yeah I have a lot to work on myself in those areas but the first step is recognizing it I feel, you can't improve what you cant see.

It sounds like you have a pretty good back up plan with the porn if this doesn't work out :)

Maybe you could integrate your mime in the ambulance service? do the whole pretending there is a brick wall around the victim, grab the top a peep over and look really surprised to see them there? Maybe an invisible stairway gag when getting some required equipment? Maybe it wouldn't go down well in emergency cases but you never know :)

We'll have just applied for a traineeship with some ambo big wigs as referee's see how I go!

Well I've been volunteering for a year now, getting heaps of training and experience.

Never listen to anyone that says u can't do something, u really can do anything u put your mind to, with a little self belief and determination :)

Edit- and I cannot speak highly enough of nsw ambulance. They really respect and value their volunteers. I cannot recommend being a volunteer highly enough, they really look after you and it's interesting stuff. If anyone is interested in volunteering please feel free to pm me and I can help point on the right direction.

ambos are angels.

even though the idea is to help people in dire need, the price of witnessing horrific injury, distress and death on a daily basis is beyond my ability to process.

i wish you luck in attaining angelic status.

Pfft I dunno about Angels ..

I guess it's a personality thing or im one cold bastard, but the injury, distress and death is not something I've found hard to deal with ..yet. Maybe growing up on a farm might have helped, working in palliative care, disability support and drug and alcohol definately helped prepare. I have found in can easily disassociate from what im dealing with.

I guess the jobs not for anyone, though it is just that.. A job.

In my opinion heroes are those drs doing heart surgery 20hrs at a time or the single parent holding shit down as best they can. The process of getting this traineeship will be a shitfight, interviews, psych test, maths and English test, deductive reasoning, fitness blah blah but I'm keen I'd love to give it a red hot crack.

i do.

i guess it's their training and job requirements the way they take precautions, inform the patient about the scene of carnage, who did what, says what and claims to have seen what. they ask you all of the stupid medical history shit. i guess like you say it's a job they fill, but it's an incredibly reassuring thing to have somebody right there sitting over you talking to you the whole time.

then you get to hospital and they wheel you into a corner somewhere for two hours, while they prepare ways to inflict pain on you :P

It will be the strangest of things that may have the impact you will find, and of the many I witnessed "crack" it

happened before they knew it themselves. Thats included ambos....

That comes from many years doing road crash rescue (lol...which is a volunteer position down here).

Which I resigned from in part due to family , but mostly due to the psuedo-militant attitudes that were being driven down

through the organisation (SES).

(I've also developed a pretty serious dislike for drink drivers....)

what do you mean WB?

like a certain behaviour by a victim or their loved one, a phrase, a look? a particular set of circumstances which somehow dramatically effects one personality but not necessarily others?

I've watched some crack over something like a kids toy, but no children were involved.

I didnt like the quiet accident scenes.

EDIT - such positions do take some form of toll though.
