AndyAmine. Posted October 19, 2014 Hi all, I recently moved house and (among other things) an antique paintings that I hold dear was damaged by the removalists and is now missing a small patch of paint. Its probably not that hard to repair for someone that knows what they are doing but that someone isnt me so Im looking for some leads or advice on how to best go about it. If you or anyone you know may be able to repair it for me please let me know and we can arrange payment or trade. Im in the Brisbane area so would prefer to keep it local. Thank you for reading. paradox Posted October 19, 2014 That Sux dude.. doesn't look too difficult to aesthetically patch up if you get the right type of paint as its on a very dark shadowy part of the painting, close to black..
_Cursive Posted October 20, 2014 I'd say you're in luck AndyAmine! I was expecting FAR worse! My friend had an Opium book, it was quite small in size, and it had that same picture in it! I like it a lot
Micromegas Posted October 21, 2014 googling antique restoration brisbane comes up with lots of hits like: http://www.jrfrenchpolishing.com.au/ and http://www.murphysantiquerestorations.com.au/index.php other than that your local antique dealer/collectible shop? That looks like an easy fix for a professional.
AndyAmine. Posted October 22, 2014 Thanks guys.,Yeah I have searched out of couple of businesses that offer painting restoration but was hoping that someone may have used a service before that they could recommend or even better someone that does that type of work here on the forums. It shouldn't be too hard for the right person to cover it up, I have no idea how much it would cost though.Ill have a ring around and get some quotes. @Cursive :Was it the exact same image that was in the book? f so then thats pretty interesting, I was under the impression that my painting was an original, its about 60yrs + in age maybe older Im not sure.
_Cursive Posted October 22, 2014 Man! I'm trying to remember, and I tried for about 2 hours yesterday trying to find it on Google, but nothing came up!My friend MAY have the book still, but I think he gave it away to a friend. He will recall the name of it though, I'll ask him now.I'll get back to ya!
AstralDisaster Posted November 10, 2014 My other half does that sort of work, but we're in the US, mainly frescoes and murals on privately owned historical sites. If you don't find someone you like, he could probably talk you through doing it yourself.
