Guest O P Mate Posted June 22, 2002 Umm just in case anyones looking for poppy seed for their viewing pleasure in certain arrangements? Please NOTE! CALIFORNIAN POPPY'S ARE NOT! I repeat NOT! A member of the genus papver ie" They only resemble a poppy, and in fact NOT TRULY a POPPY! and besides you can go to just about any nursery or hardware and buy the seeds there are a number of brands available, too for less. And they're guaranteed... As for anything else, Hmmm? Anyway just a little bit of trivia for you all. Yours O P Mate...

theobromos Posted July 6, 2002 Some plants that are not Papaver (for example Glaucium and Roemeria) have been called poppies since before the Genus Papaver was conceived. Are they retrospectively denied their status as Poppies? Surely any member of the Papaveraceae can be called A poppy?
Torsten Posted July 6, 2002 I always perceived all Papaveraceae to be poppies.
