Northerner Posted October 11, 2019 Forgive my noobish question... we all have to start somewhere. I've got some logs that were gifted and they now have some sizable pups growing off them. What's the best way to get them growing in their own pots? I was thinking to cut them off as close as possible to the log and let the cuts dry a couple of weeks, then just stand them up buried in their own pots and let them go. Am I missing something? Thanks Northy
Strontium Dawg Posted October 11, 2019 Just cut them at the base like any other offset and it's all the same technique from there.
Northerner Posted October 11, 2019 Just confirming, I cut right on the join despite the angle it comes off the log?
Strontium Dawg Posted October 11, 2019 It's a good spot to cut, less open wound to callous over and the cuts usually root faster ime.
Northerner Posted October 11, 2019 Thanks mate. Hopefully my logs will make some new pups if I take their babies away too.
Humboldt Posted January 22, 2020 What size would a pup like to be for removing?
Northerner Posted January 23, 2020 I let mine go to about 4 ot 5 inches. I don't know the recommended, they just looked good to go about that stage.
Average Joe Posted January 26, 2020 My only advice would be to not cut them off too early. Be patient, let them grow. If your log can support more growth it will certainly start to send multiple new pups. Don’t be too eager to take the youngin from the mother
