Definitely odd thou Damn psychonaut eat beasts. I hope whatever had a go had a really long hard think about it's life decisions after taking a nibble lol In any case it's been given some rooting gel and put next to the house in some soil so hopefully the spikes will protect it while it roots. I was out all day and came home to a monster package with this absolute unit of an unreleased pach cut inside that needing staking to stay upright which I found out the hard way with my shoulder. Totally worth it though, just look at it

Start off strong and you'll be glad of it Credit where credit is due, you said big cut not a freaking shoulder attacking monster that's now my biggest cactus by far lol Thanks a million mate I'll be sure to give it a prominent position in the garden in a week or so after it gets used to the local conditions but I have a feeling that like the oversized cuts I have in smaller pots it's going to outgrow that large pot very quickly. I'm thinking I'll put it in something like a 80-100L pot as putting such a plant in the ground here is a big no no and keep it as a show piece. It definitely warrants such treatment
MountainGoat Posted January 23, 2019 Id suggest working your way up to 100L pots, unless you don’t get much rainfall...
Ethnoob Posted January 23, 2019 6 hours ago, MountainGoat said: Id suggest working your way up to 100L pots, unless you don’t get much rainfall... I'll definitely let it get root bound in it's current pot before moving it up to the next size after which my only options will be the truly massive pots from bunnings. There's no way in hell I'm going to try and transplant it from a 60L to 80L to 100L pots though, it's already stabbed me plenty and it hardly seems worth the effort when I can just cover the pot or give it shelter to control the amount of water it gets. It's a shame wheely bins are more tall than round. It'd be tops being able to drill some holes in one for aeration and then move the plants around as needed.
MountainGoat Posted January 24, 2019 yeah, i'd just go from 40L to the big suckers... even 40L will get a couple of years growth though...

Transplanting them even on a yearly basis would be a huge pain in the arse at that size. It'd probably just be easier to cut the bottom of the pots off and plonking it on top of the larger one at that point. Speaking of huge pains in the arse if the devil were a plant he'd be a pereskiopsis. Those tiny bastard spines are something else. Thanks to @Matt1208 though I now have plenty of them in my arsenal and will build an army of them in preparation for all the seeds I have sprouting. Fun times are ahead for sure
Ethnoob Posted January 24, 2019 Looks like my lophophora jourdaniana is about to flower which is great and all but I thought cacti couldn't flower in the middle of Queensland. Fingers crossed the trichos follow this ones example
Ethnoob Posted January 29, 2019 The long weekend is over and Aussie Post have started delivering again David, Jeans and a monster True Blue Peru. Here's some sprouts with what looks like a double headed loph sprout at the end. I'll get a better pic of it with the macro lens later in the week. @Matt1208 came through with a ton of pereskiopsis for me and I added some other plants like a few brugs, khat and I got my first iboga sprout today too. My cactus addiction is spreading to normal cacti. Lord help me...Also the same loph from the last post is going freaking bonkers pupping out like a madman and looks like it's definitely going to flower soon too. Ignore the psychonaut ant on it lol Last up is a current group shot of the main patch. Sorry for the shit shot, it was the best I could manage. You can't half tell I spend a lot of time out there with them though hey I have an absolutely insane amount of cacti coming this week and early next to the point it's nearly going to double the size of my collection. They're mostly all hype cuts like chemical shamans dick, kai, etc. but I also have some crests/monstrose types and a very weird looking pach hybrid coming too. It's going to be unreal

I now feel much better about it edit: Just noticed my post count went up by 450 for it though. Is there a way to undo that as it feels like a huge lie? Halcyon Daze Posted January 31, 2019 (edited) Nice little collection you have there, ethnolegend. I remember when I started out with a couple of PC, a scop and a bunch of cereus. Nice to know the community can pitch in and help sort people out. You must be spending a crapload on cacti though. Is your family still getting 3 square meals or have you started rationing? Is your family still getting 3 square meals or have you started rationing? Thanks for the kind words and you're not wrong, I've literally spent everything I've had on cacti and I've also had to completely give up eating out, drinking booze, having an indoor grow to lower my power bill, etc. Growing cacti has definitely been a positive influence like that but I haven't lost my shit with it to the point of starving just yet. I could stand to lose some weight though Edited January 31, 2019 by Ethnoob edit
Ethnoob Posted February 2, 2019 I've been keeping an eye on this loph that was about to flower and it went all lol nope and has started sucking the flower back inside of itself over the last 36 hours or so. Is this a common thing or is it just fucking with me? Either way sorry @Matt1208 looks like I won't be able to share it's pollen Since I was out in the garden taking pics I figured I'd try to get a picture of what I thought was a double headed loph sprout. It's a bit on the potato side but it looks like I was right about it
sagiXsagi Posted February 2, 2019 it's normal for all kinds of cacti to abort some buds at the start and/or at the end of the season, I think its mostly seasonal and dependent to what phase the cactus is in.

MountainGoat Posted February 2, 2019 Actually noob, that wouldn’t be a flower bud there. It might be a pup pushing through, but loph s only flower from the centre, even when you have multiple flowers there always from the centre. Pups off the main head will also flower, but also from their centre...

I know that I have less than an untrained eye but it really didn't look the same as the pups the loph has been putting out at all especially in this picture and more than that it's retreating while the pups keep on growing. I don't doubt you're right about lophs flowering from the centre but could it have been an error that it's now trying to self correct?
MountainGoat Posted February 3, 2019 It’s interesting what ever it is, but it’s not a flower bud. They are shaped and coloured differently... I’m keen to see what happens though...

Ethnoob Posted February 3, 2019 (edited) Turns out arming the kid with a torch greatly helps with getting a decent night time shot If you're actually interested it's a ad006 pasacana, 2x sharxx blue, peruvianus 'john', LW Caespitosa, the twin towers (true blue peru and an unreleased pachanoi from halcyon daze), Roseii#2 and a technically unknown plant from SAB that I'm like 99% sure is psycho0 as it looks exactly like the other ones I have.
