Lophophora: sunburn or mites?

Question

Hey, I’ve got one pot out of about 8 that has this. I can’t see any mites with the naked eye and I’m not great at recognising sunburn yet.

one is worse that the rest, the others just have some whiteness on the base of the button..

Any help would be great aswell as any tips to remedy this!

That does not look like sunburn, sunburn makes the plant blushed with pink/red and is not blotchy like that, looks like some kind of infestation, maybe mites or maybe a disease/virus ?

I find mites aren't to common when you top water your plants, if it's mites maybe you could spray them with water with a spay bottle set on jet mode twice a day ? That's what i did when a couple of mine got mites a while back and worked, It may be risky to spray tho cause the skin appears to possibly be compromised, that and the cold weather may lead to rot ? hopefully someone can offer you better advice soon.

That´s spider mites. You need a miticide or something like Neem.

sulfur is usually not 100% effective against mites. You need something more effective like Neem, White Oil, imidacloprid or Spinosad. Also, Diat. Earth might work also. It's cancerogen when inhaled though.

I thought mites drank imidacloprid for breakfast... I had my first run in with spider mites last summer, lost quite a few plants. I thought it wouldnt happen to me, foolish. Then i ignored them because it couldnt be mites, right?

By the time i accepted the fact, i was in trouble.

Imidacloprid will kill everything, including predators of mites, but i read it wont do much to the mites themselves...?

Wettable sulfur worked pretty well for me, with repeated application. I repotted everything that was infected and quarantined them. Most pulled through, with scarring. I lost some location cultivar lophs which was a real shame. My message: dont mess around and waste time if you even suspect mites. Treat your plants as if you have them, it wont hurt them, and you might save some of their lives.

Thanks guys, I’ve stopped treating them with sulphur over the past week and I’ve been using this stuff (pictured).

i haven’t repotted anything though. I’m hoping they all pull through
