Drying cuts with rooting hormone ?

Recommended Posts

anyone ever tried this ? mixing sulphur and powdered rooting hormone to callous the fresh cuts and induce rooting quicker

or is that shit only good for plants ?

also interested to know who buries their cutting as opposed to sitting them on the surface and allowing the roots to dig in ?

ive always buried but recently I've been sitting them in a snug pot with an inch or so soil and after a week or two I'll pull the cut out of the pot with the bit of soil sticking to the roots add another inch, once the roots have grown through that I'll pot up in a larger pot and wait another couple weeks before watering

ill add photos for easier understanding, the soil/roots circled in red is the first inch of soil

I've used just rooting hormone, sulfur, and mixtures of both to induce rooting and more importantly keep nasties away.

I've also simply placed my cut cacti on top of the soil and allowed their roots to dig in. I generally do that more with specimens that are more prone to root rot. With that being said, planting your cacti directly in the soil works great as well once the callous is sufficiently started. Bottom line, there are many different ways to root your Trichocereus. The one thing that seems to speed the rooting process up the most in my experience is moist bottom heat. The roots seem to be called out of that callous much faster that way. Especially so when the cutting is sitting atop that moist warm soil.

I use the combo on all of my cuts. Then straight into my rooting bed. Water after 2 weeks
