Quarzo

sub or cub

Question

went hunting for subaeruginosa today, on the way walked through a cow field and found a whole bunch of cubes, i ended up finding this little guyshromlo.thumb.jpg.f7bdb007edb9f40f121448a20e2a2ac5.jpgshrom.thumb.jpg.c4d677787d8f9ea2b7bfbfbebdd2c8cf.jpghanging out with a patch of cubes, and i seems very subaeruginosary to me, i thought i should get your IDs though as it was growing out of a cow pat, or atleast through a cow pat, and ive never heard of subs doing that before, bruised blue too :)

Hi Karode! Yeah, it's me. :)

Well, I've seen pictures of alleged alutacea that look almost like semilanceata, and then ones that look very similar to subaeruginosa. I think one of those is on MO, and identifyed as alutacea, based on both macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. So I assumed this might be alutacea as well, going on habitat and season, and general appearance. But I agree with you, very interesting whatever it is!

Look up Copelandia cyaescens, according to Erowid they grow in NZ so mast handle the cold. Mate in the North and in Asia these things are every where a buffalo poops. In my opinion much better than cubes.

Copelandia seems likely however the colour of the cap still makes me a bit unsure, guessing the colour varies alot though. anyway heres a comparison to a cube i also found today sublocubllo.thumb.jpg.2368f167c378ff588cc056a402906c80.jpg

Most likely Psilocybe alutacea.

Hey Tangich?

Looks a bit too stout for one of those. Definitely not P. cubensis or Panaeolus cyanescens.

Something different and interesting for sure.

Thanks for the help, after a quick search of alutacea it looks quite promising. I saw a few baby ones of these when searching so I might go back today for another look.
