Jackdaripper Posted February 22, 2018 Got a few plants showing growth!!!! This is my first year with a full season greenhouse. Needless to say this is going to be the most exciting season of growth ive ever experienced! I will be sure to post like a madman Huanucoensis N1 Eileen
Inyan Posted February 22, 2018 You have an outstanding collection JackDaRipper. My favorite of the three is that Huanocoensis of course.

Jackdaripper Posted February 22, 2018 The thing im most excited about is this was the first winter that these plants didnt get the closet treatment. I can hardly wait to see what kind of growth that thing puts on in the GH. Everything was going dormant when i finished up my gh so i have no clue what kind of changes im going to see! A little background for everyone. Ive got multiples of alot of these plants and like to put them in drastically different conditions around my house to see how different light and temperature conditions effect girth/color/spination. Again i will be posting pictures of that this summer

A little background for everyone. Ive got multiples of alot of these plants and like to put them in drastically different conditions around my house to see how different light and temperature conditions effect girth/color/spination. Again i will be posting pictures of that this summer Some basic I've noticed... Less light = skinnier growth more pronounced when watered more More light = fatter growth to a point Cooler temperatures = slower growth top and roots Warmer temperatures = faster growth growth top and roots Very cold temperatures... I've let mine drop down to freezing temperatures for just a few minutes each day.... is bring out more and more purple highlights in some of my Trichocereus, but not all. Keep in mind, I've even got a bit frost damage on a few of my cacti and stock plants alike. So, I'm pushing them about as far as I like right now... kinda has me nervous to a point, but fellows like us do what we do so we can see what nature has in store for us. Purple to red coloring is still developing on a few of my Trichocereus with the continued cold exposure. Ahh, and some of my Pereskiopsis have developed red/purple highlights to the edges of their leaves as well. Interestingly, not all of them have. As I said before, some are merely either continuing to hang in or dying. Suffice it to say, longer experiments in time would likely change things up a bit more and have more extreme changes occurring. I look forward to seeing your results being that you are using clones for your experiment. The results should be very telling. I would like to point out though that like my own experiments... not all of my cacti are responding in the same way to the same stimuli. Some of my cacti exposed to cold for instance are neither showing frost damage or purple coloring. They are simply staying green and healthy looking. As for your green house... I'm excited for you as I know you have several jewels in there about to take off. I look at your collection and I know come the end of this summer your going to have more grafts you want to make than you are going to have space for as the quality of your clones and seedlings alike is just that good. For a Colorado man, you've got it going on.

Jackdaripper Posted March 23, 2018 Most of these plants started showing signs of waking up on tuesday 22nd. Im unsure if these woke up because spring was here or if it was because I bumped my nightime temps to 58°f. Next year I will try and not do that on the same week as spring and update my findings
Inyan Posted March 24, 2018 For what its worth, when I back the temperature down to near freezing and give full sunlight my Trichocereus slow down their growth dramatically as do my other stock cacti. Warmer temperatures even in the dead of winter with full normal sunlight will cause my cacti to take off again. So, increased temperatures will definitely cause those cacti to rapidly grow regardless of the seasonal light they are exposed to. Albeit, the stronger and longer those light hours are the faster the growth as well, but cold temperatures slam the lid on growth in my experience.
