Hello me heartie Sabbages I'd ike to grow some Coca for no reason ...

... other than to have another magickal plant to add to the witch garden of course! and I have been planning and slowly accomplishing that for almost a decade now ..

May I grow some Coca on your forum please if I can source it? or do I have to ask?

I think it's forbiddio where most SABer's are , much like the toads I guess.. , but it appears legal enough to grow on the Island that I am on for the purposes I intend ... just to simply grow it and see if I can keep it alive for another live herbarium specimen for my witchy garden and to share the fun here..

And then if I'm twin terbo cool enough .. maybe create a Bonsai from it..!

Whaddya reckon eh?

Bliss wishes and brightest blessings,

Horsie xoxoxo

So I've never done this before but after a quick browse on the subject I think I'm going to start them off in small pots of vermiculite like the first time I sprouted tepezcohuite and then from there go 2 parts john innes #3 loam, 1 part perlite, 1 part coir and 1 part sand..

'maybe use an exoterra I reckon for a cocal with maybe no heat mat and perhaps some extra humidity with the ole poly carb DIY top and maybe even some individual humidity domes and some LED bars but in a sunny window !

I'm laying info sown here for my memories sake lest I forget I even started the project :3

I have no authoritah around these parts but i say if its legal to grow in your neck of the woods, go for it.

Plus, You always put up a good grow blog thats worth a read.

I think your biggest hurdle may be getting hold of starting material. Seeds have a notoriously short period of viability and shipping live cuttings has its own challenges which I'm sure you can understand.

Fortunately I've been advising a few people over the years of a good seed source in Indonesia :3

And yeah I guess I should prep to lose them I guess save any heartache

Guessing your not in Aussie. Cause it’s quite illegal to cultivate here for any reason I’m pretty sure. If your somewhere where it’s not illegal it shouldn’t be too hard to source. But if Glaukus is right and the seeds have a short period of viability might make it real hard unless someone down the road had any. Good luck though.

I think the biggest hurdle will be what to start them in .. i read verm but source says no..

in fact, source says something i can't even interpret/decypher ... any ideas?

ideal 27° celsius, little temperature changes (by this I am assuming to maintain a constant 27C day and night)
50% to 80%,humidity (ok got that fine)
sufficient light ( basic 6500K spectrum, 10 000 lux / lum : cool white fluorescent tubes, MG /envirolites, mercury iodine,
metal halide, hp sodium sunlight of course are reported to work) up to 18 /24 hours a day

the most sensitive critical part seems to
be the soil. (thats the one)

Basic soil characteristics :

well drained------
most strain like water but does not like to be in a humid soil.

avoid over watering, water when the soil is dry, a few centimeters in.
water with rain / snow water or bottled mineral water (avoid tap water, which is usually slightly alkaline)
spray leaves with distilled /demineralized water

Acidic--------------
consensus has not been reached on actual ideal acidity, but strains need a slightly acidic soil.

some recommendations are between a pH of 4.5 to 5.5- 6 being a basic / alkaline
maximum.
Avoid lime and vermiculite commercial mixes
(as such they do not work for this, as they're way too spongy and retain water)

standard algoflash potting mix (pH 6.5)
: sphagnum peat, composted pine grits,
wood fibre, green compost, perlite NPK
6.7.15 - (never heard of this in my life b4)

terre de bruyere potting mix ( pH 5)
consisting of 25% dry matter, 25%
organic matter, sphagnum peat NPK 16
- 7 - 15 (never heard of this in my life before)

commercial bonsai potting mix ( pH6) (previously said commercial mixes no good?)
sphagnum peat, composted pine grit,
horse manure compost, sand,
pouzzolana NPK 16 - 7 - 15

cactus potting mix

(from what I learned here that kinda means anything freedraining but mainlky john innes#3 with horticltural grit)

maybe I can use john innes? I did ask but didnt get any indication of a yes or no

When I got mine in a ziplock baggie like yours they started germinating in there. One option is to wait for that (rootlets coming from the seed) but there's the danger they start rot. And the danger to damage the rootlets when planting.

On the other hand some might take longer to sprout. How many seeds?
