Favorite cactus

Recommended Posts

What is yalls favorite cactus in your collection? What is a cactus that you would like to add to your collection?

Tough decision but I really like the TPQC x TPM my buddy gave me. It's uniqueness is something else.  As far as one I'd like to get would be Blue Sharxx or CSD. But so many others I hope to grow someday.

Yeah man a top 10 would be better!

Ss02 x serra blue

Mallacht cut

Taz

Psycho0 x n1

Ohlone

Just to name a few that I like in my collection(I actually love them all). An older guy I worked for in college gave me one of the lophs he collected from the peyote garden of texas back in the day. It's definitely mu most prized cacti. It was in rough shape from neglect so I grafted it to a pedro.  I expect it to start pupping any day. I'm eager to get some pollen from it too.

My top picks are probably always going to be seedlings as that is what really gets me excited. Seeing something new unfold for the first time and seeing that first flower.

With that being said, the top three on my list are Peru2 x ValidusPeru2xValidus85.thumb.jpg.c416c7a9743a002bcc1665d2a0e11845.jpg as this one looks like she is going to be a massive little thing. Number 2 on my list would be a cotyledon graft I recently did with (SS02 x SS01) x red grandi cotyledongraft.thumb.jpg.8a2650d5934c1435323b2afd32a99007.jpgas the seedlings were grafted to each other while they still had their cotyledons, I am very excited about this graft as it is already a few weeks old and it has obviously taken.

Lastly, I have this nice hunk of goldss02xss01xredgrandi990.thumb.jpg.962afc6b59dad9e2989ae7170b455c6c.jpg, also the same cross as the last. I'm hopeful for it just like I am some of its other brother and sisters. All Zelly seedlings of course, ergo my excitement is more than warranted. Note, these are my top 3 at the moment and I can't pick an absolute winner out of the bunch for my favorite just yet. I love phat Trichocereus, but I also love oddities and both of the last two fit the bill of being oddities. I mean, how many grafts do you see on a daily that are done at the cotyledon stage like this? Sure, many cotyledon grafts are done with horizontal cut, but with a vertical cut... you don't see that every day.

Any ancient and grotesque (as in bonsai descriptive meaning gorgeous) cactus of the lopho wills ...

...or large olde collection fat tricho variety that baffles with regards to ID and is hard to pin point... and that doesn't die when you treat it like reg tricho's and doubles as the kind of cactus that is so tough and probably wouldn't snap if you beat someone with it

- or is simply far too large for a human to wield and probably best for that purpose administered by a tornado .. like those saguaros that fall through peoples walls but in tricho flavour...cactus-ned-flanders.jpg?resize=650,502
