Grafting dicotyledon stage Zelly

Recommended Posts

As you can see, the left side and I have only myself to blame for that as I know the easy fix for that one. As it is though, I am happy enough with this one. I threw in some extra eye candy just because. I tried  to present enough pictures so that it could be replicated by the members here.

Update of seedling graft as wrap has been off for a day now. This is a key point where you get to see where some key problems might be. Remember, with this type of graft we are attempting 3 grafts at one time. Each side and the middle are all attempting to be grafted. The graft will be successful only if the middle graft and one of the outside lateral grafts takes. If both outside lateral grafts take and the middle graft fails to take the two seedlings will not grow as one and all was for naught as that is not the point of this type of graft. As you can tell, it looks like at the moment the middle and the left side have grafted while the right side has pulled away for the most part. I will call this a success if the other two grafts continue to hold as its purpose will have been served.

I am updating this in real time so you can see the pitfalls of this type of graft as they happen as well as the positives. As you can see the graft is still pulling away from the loose side once the binding has come off. Middle graft between seedlings is still clearly in place however. You can also see the Pereskiopsis itself is staring to grow.

You can see the graft is already pulling a little more uneven today.

Should have posted some of these in the beginning. Better late than never. This is the size of the seedlings I am grafting fyi. And of course... an update on the little seedling graft above.ssed2.thumb.jpg.86a137b196c1a00043df79c721e6e917.jpgThis little guy is making it happen. For all intensive purposes this one looks to be a success lets just say it doesn't get much smaller than this when it comes to grafting.

This little guy is going to start growing any day now. Sitting on pins and needs as she looks simply divine. If I can get both of these two separate and now joined Zelly specimens to flower at the same time it will be interesting indeed.

One more update on this cotyledon graft. Picture taken today so it is 100% obvious this little guy has been grafted not just in one place, but in a minimum of two places for this graft to look the way it does today.

Active growth readily seen on these two seedlings grafted together when still at the cotyledon stage of growth. The graft seam is starting to disappear as well between the two seedlings. I'm waiting for everyone to start posting their own cotyledon grafts on here as I've posted enough pictures to show how easy they are to perform. Come on folks... where are your cotyledon grafts? No fear, I will continue to update this cotyledon graft for you folks so you can see how the little Zelly develops.

Forgive me for the long delay in posting an update to this incredibly tiny graft. I know you are all on pins and needles waiting for it to fail. That last was said jokingly if there is any question. With that said and without further delay I present to you one of the worlds smallest multiple grafts done simultaneously....  She is alive both Dr.Jekyl and Hyde are growing like a Demon on Steroids. Sadly, the growing points are a bit further apart than I had wanted them to be as you can now see more clearly.

This baby is bad to the bone. Micro-grafts done on two cotyledon stage seedlings and a wedge graft as well. I'm thinking however this isn't entertaining enough. i might have to order some more seeds and graft 4 cotyledon stage babies together like this. I'm thinking an albino "x" type pattern should be done with the two albino seedlings diagonally opposed to each other and their non variegated counterparts done the same... it might make for an interesting grow out.
