It's most likely mite damage, could be altogether trivial or it could spiral out of control.

Spray it with metho and make sure to soak the area around the graft union, the little fuckers love to hide out in there. Then because the metho will dissolve the waxy coating on the plant it will be very susceptible to sunburn for a few weeks. So keep it out of direct sunlight, you could even bring it inside for a week or so & then start gradually reaclimatising it to incrementally stronger light.

Check the other plants that are in close proximity to that one too. Mites tend to infest areas and you don't know until the damage becomes obvious.

No worries I'll do that now thanks mate and yeah I got the small bugs flying around and some little suckers crawling in the dirt which i suspect are mites so obviously there bad , any ideas how to treat the grow area there inside under 400hps in a contained environment but saying that I've had plants outside and brought in so I could have transferred the suckers in like that

Napalm ?

Use the metho undiluted.

Yeah it's never a good idea to bring a plant from outside into a confined growing space, even just being in the garden before entering the room is not the best idea. Most of the bugs you are seeing are probably fungus gnats which can be a problem if their larvae gets into the root system of a weak plant. Most plants can tolerate them fine up to a point.

A vacuum cleaner can be good to reduce their numbers if you do it every day but will never solve the problem. Sometimes you need to get everything out and spray the fuck out of the room at least once. While you have the plants out you could fumigate each one if you don't mind using chemicals. If it were me I'd be tempted re-pot the whole fucking lot in a mix that's been solarised in plastic bags for a few days. A hot driveway is good for that.

Then I'd consider covering the top 1-2 inches of potting mix with straight sand, they say they won't burrow in and breed in sand for some reason.

And re-evaluate your grow room hygiene.

Edit : Never spray any chemicals with a HID light switched on

Umm ok yeah i havent seen bugs crawling on it so was trying to suss out what it is also that graft had nevet been outside its spent 3 months in a growroom fine so not sure also it was potted in new cactus soil and i mixed perlite through. The other plants in there are in pure coco coir mix so not sure but have had a pot outside which I brought in and threw in the room but saying that how could I have a infestation and not know? Also the grow room is clean so not sure what your implying it's not like I'm a slob lol

Let me clarify when I said I have bugs flying around its not all the time its just I've seen them before and for all I know they flew in when I opened the room up..

All I was saying was that you brought a plant in from outside which is bad practice for an indoor grow room and you did say you've got shit buzzing around in there.

I wasted all that typing a reply to a thread that had sat there unanswered for 3 hours and you just got offended of a simple turn of phrase not meant to imply anything personal.

Good luck with it when spring comes.

Too easy im looking forward to spring and so is all my plants and look I don't even think its even  bugs as i dug it up and checked the roots and there healthy as so you were wrong anyways.. As I said maybe excessive nitrogen or something hence why I asked the question as if it was bugs all my plants would be infested so that theory is out of the equation..

Be nice guys and gals :slap:

I'm personally a big opponent of spraying.

My own yote grafts are infested with predatory mites that will swiftly neutralize threaths that me or the spider patrol missed

I haven't had any first hand experience with spider mites (on cacti), but from what i've read the damage caused by them is like scarring.

The scarring i'd expect to be off-white in color.

If you were to set the cactus where the salt is standing it would be much easier to make a judgement.

Looks to me like the spots on the side are a discoloration and not scarring.

Maybe sunburn?

Nitrogen deficiency i would expect to be less blotchy tbh

Come on don't hurt eachother. Sal's just offering you an opinion man, nothing nasty was intended. Anyway, I'd take heed any time someone like Sal offers friendly advice, you'll go a long way if you do.

Now kiss and make up.

DO IT! :(

Mites are sap suckers, they make microscopic holes and feed on the juices below the surface. The initial damage is pretty well always a discouloration very siimilar to what the pics show.

In the secondary phases of damage after a few weeks the damage turns chlorotic (yellow) and then later turns white and then into scar tissue as the plant heals.

I was just regurgitating advice EG gave me one time when when I posted similar pics of my baby lophs here many years ago. The metho halted it for mine then and has every other time I've seen that symptom

It could well be something else. time will tell.

The patterns don't hold up to mite damage though imo.

Even when mites i would be hesitant to spray it with anything that dissolves the waxy coating. I would say there are better ways to combat mites.

It could well be something else, Ill be happy to admit I'm wrong if that's the case. I was just trying to give a strategy to prevent any further damage for a worst case scenario, the metho is perfectly safe if you take the precautions I outlined before.

Maybe pm EG and ask him to check out your pics, he knows his cactus better than I do.

It's the same with anything in life, you should never rely on a single opinion.

You could always try the ol' chop and microwave trick.

Chop the whole thing up into little pieces, very carefully microwave each piece on low to kill all the germs/ mites, then simply stick it all back together again and bob's-yr-uncle. If that don't work you may as well throw the whole thing in the bin and start again :P

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone yeah its a discoloration that's for sure not white  like a pail yellow maybe.. Anyways shit so is it fatal? Will degrafting and regrafting to a tricho solve the problem? If it's mites will the stock the loph Is on be damaged as well?

What about my other babies if that's the case of mites wouldn't that mean all my other cactus and plants will be infested too? This clump has been next to it the whole time and looks fine

Also dualwieldrake nar mate its been under 400w hps for 2 months  never been on the windowsill

So is it best to spray with metho n pray for success or what De graft or loose it? I'm not fussed about chemicals as long as it does the job
