Thanks man, appart from some of my cacti I started buying seeds & cuttings of everything you see 3 or 4 months ago tops.

Most plants have been started inside under a 300w full spectrum LED before putting them outside.

I've been creaming over your photos for some days now MeanGreen. I've been tempted to tell you to pull your head in with the photos automatically thinking you were aussie.
I see you are from lands far away - go for fucking gold mate!

Beautiful plants man. You are living the dream. Amazing sally d bro I wish we could get these here without it being a weird half illegal bullshit ordeal. Good luck to you mate. Happy gardening  :)

Thank you so much for the kind words dude!

I definitely feel blessed to be able to go all in on my passion, I'm unemployed at the moment so I have all the free time I want, and hopefully I can make a little business out of selling cuttings & seeds.

I'm a little worried for the winter but I think I should have enough indoor space to keep at least one mother of each perennials in my 2x1m tent. Plus I can overwinter some plants inside the house if needed.

And yeah, sorry for the avalanche of pics & posts, I just had to kickstart the grow log, I'll make myself more discreet in the future. The plants I grow are legal for ornamental purposes here, which is the only reason I grow them for.

Well if that's the laws where you are my friend, I doubt you need to employ any more discretion. Here in our land of the oppressed the laws are draconian.
The internet is a worldly place and this isn't solely an Australian website so I reckon keep pumping out the ethno porn my friend. You're simply doing what everyone else wishes they could openly do. :)

Hope your plants fare well over winter MeanGreen. Best of luck mate.

There is a certain tasmanian poppy that is no good for consumption, only good for ornamental purposes (they can make you seriously sick if consumed)
I think this variety of tasmanian poppy is called the "Norman" poppy, a play on words meaning 'no morphine' - this is the poppy mass produced by the pharma companies as it produces high levels of a certain alkaloid that is used for oxycontin production. I think this alkaloid is  'Thebaine' . In its unrefined/unprocessed form thebaine is toxic and undesirable... Not all tasmanian poppies are the normans, one or two other varieties are desirable morphine producing poppies... Be careful my friend. Happy gardening.

Thanks, that's some good info right there about the Tasmanian poppies, thanks.

Ithink I heard about this norman breed and people were saying it has red latex instead of white latex, is that correct?

Not that I would ever harvest latex from my poppies, but if it is then it's good to know you can easily tell them appart.

Because wikipedia says a high dose of thebaine can cause convulsions similar to strychnine (rat poison) poisoning, that's no good for people who grow poppies for consumption.

Yeah mate spot on.
I think all smokable latex will dry to a sort of pink/redish/brown appearance... but when u freshly score, the desirable latex should be white, and dry to pinky/brown....
Where as the undesirable (thebaine rich) latex will likely bleed immediately pinkish/red in colour and dry to an even deeper red/pink.

This is just info that I've picked up reading threads. I wish we could grow these bad boys :)

Good luck with your ornamental poppy's mate. They produce beautiful flowers & hold a rich worldly history.
A fantastic addition to your ethno garden.

Thank you Skellum, much appreciated.

This community seems a lot more welcoming and mature than the more popular blue one (wink wink), very happy to be able to share my botanical adventures with you guys.

Some flowers are starting to pop up in the garden, pretty hyped about that I love when plants reward your work with some beautiful flowers.

My biggest Spilanthes starting to push out a bunch of flowers:

large.IMG_20170530_152953-1451x1851.jpg.

First poppy pod of the year starting to form, although the plant is still quite small

large.IMG_20170530_153501-1451x2232.jpg.

My Mexican Tarragon and Nicotinia Rustica plants are also starting to bud, I'll show you the flowers as soon as they open.

Also I bought this little Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus graft which was labeled as monstrose for cheap on the bay

large.IMG_20170530_153136-1451x1920.jpg.

Along with the ariocarpus came some very nice Pereskiopsis, 3 very thick ones labeled as Pereskiopsis sp. "Gigant" and a cristate one.

They'renot looking their best right now because of transport but I'll snap some pics tomorrow when they have perked back up.

Of course brother, I PM'd  you the link. Hopefully you don't have to order again and the ones you already ordered do sprout.

I had pretty much 100% germination on mines, just make sure to plant them with the little tufty side pointing up or they'll have to turn around, that's were the cotyledons come out of. I also noticed it's good to cover them a little bit, don't let the tuft stick out of the soil or they'll have trouble standing up straight afterwards. They're pretty quick to sprout too, about 3~5 days.

Never heard of a strain called Elite, not sure what species you're talking about, is that a weed strain? Who's the breeder?

Thanks again for all the compliments dude

Yesterday morning I woke up to a goddamn couple of hippie snails having wild phenetylaminated sex next to the pots of those poor cacti they munched on.

The dirty beatniks were even fornicating in front of their children, suffice to say I flung the whole family for a one-way flight to the moon :ana:

Anyways I tried to make the best of it and grafted a loph seedling on the munched pachanoi, hopefully this'll take.

large.IMG_20170603_144307.jpg.def2fb8a15

On the bright side, I also woke up to this nice flower I hadn't even noticed was forming. Two other lophs also have buds that should open by tomorrow.

Oh and here are the peresks I was talking about in my previous post, the two pots with 3 little pachanois each are new buys too.

Some new seedlings poked their heads the past couple days:

- Psychotria elata ("Hooker's Lips")

The picture was taken a few days ago, I see 3 more starting to pop up in the same pot now. Germination took a little over a week, straight to soil. I have a bunch of these seeds up for trades if anyone is interested.

large.IMG_20170604_105900.jpg.5079164902

Heimia Salicifolia ("Sinicuichi")

Glad to see these seeds are easy to germinate. For some reason I couldn't get any sinicuichi cuttings to root on my last 2 attempts. I took 4 new cuttings today to try again.

If anyone has some tips for successfully rooting cuttings of this plant it would be much appreciated.

large.IMG_20170604_105914-1343x1755.jpg.

Rivea Corymbosa ("Ololiuqui")

A friend of mine gave me some few years old seeds a few months ago but I couldn't get any to germinate. Ordered some fresh seeds and they sprouted in less than a week.

Bonus pic, 3 of my lophophora flowering at pretty much the same time

How big were the cuttings you did? Did you put it in some sort of greenhouse for humidity? Maybe I'm giving them too much humidity.

The first time I tried it pretty much like you said but in their own pots and in a mini greenhouse. they just wilted after a few hours and never came back up, the leaves were starting to get black at the tips after about a week. I tried in plain water and same thing, plus rotten stems.

Thanks, my plant isn't woody yet and the cuttings I took always were fresh new growth, maybe that's the problem.

yeah i couldn't strike fresh growth on it to save my life , not even aeroponically...

'won't be too long before it gets woody though :)

- the guy I just bought an established plant from still has them left for sale

they're £15 a shot though , not inc postage... if you wanted to speed up to cutting stock

'will PM you  a link because i think they have 8 left

Awesome thread, welcome to the forums!

I have found catha to be prone to too much water and too little water, so lost my last batch at about the age yours are 3-4 proper set of leaves

but I did get one to branching size, almost maturity and managed to keep another that came as a cutting during the winter and its now growing

It would be very cool to see updates from time to time :)

Thanks a lot for the greetings, glad to be here!

I definitely will do some updates on the khat, I also lost a couple seedlings along the way, they seemed to  have dried up no matter if the soil was moist or dry.

I still got five or 6 seedlings going strong that I recently repotted in bigger pots. One is alone and the rest is in a clump that I couldn't separate without damaging the roots so I let them be.

Hopefully I can get at least a couple mature plants I can take cuttings from in the future.

here's my 10-months old c.e. which recently did 2-3 branches - I should propably fert it again... I started it quite the wrong period, mid summer, but it made it, basically because I found a bright inside spot for it to sit during winter where it stayed active and even grew a bit without etiolating with occasional waterings..

much more agonising was my effort to keep the biggy rooted cutting I received in mid autumn , which stayed idle and gradually lost leaves, for some 8 months, before it recently showed signs of growth. again the wrong period to receive such warm loving plants as cuttings, not unlike psychotrias, unless one has an inside setup. I have to note I did place the cutting near fluoro lights I was using to early start chilli , ephedra a.o. , but I gradually took in outside protected spot. and watered occasionally so it it didn't dry up.
