Fastest Growing Pachanoi

Recommended Posts

Is there a consensus on which pachanoi is the fastest growing?

My previous stint with LER (which I got from LER) was nowhere near what I am seeing with my bridgesii, in terms of sheer cm of accumulation.  But my collection isn't that large.

What grows fastest in my garden may not grow all that fast for you as it depends on climate/light/nutrients. My fastest growing plants in general are all pachanoi and scopulicola cultivars.

I get minimum of 60m/year from yowie pachanoi, but I may have a new winner, it's an Ecuadorian type pachanoi, it put on a foot of growth over winter when everything else was dormant, and it was an unrooted cut when potted up in April. Can't wait to see what it does over spring and summer!

There's a clone passed around between my mates called OSP aka old school Pedro. One mother was cut winter equinox and by spring equinox we had 17 x 1ft logs off two trunks. Change can verify the cuts and stock :) B) Hehe

yer OSP does grow pretty quick, TheDood gave me a 20 cm piece unrooted in the summer of 2013, its been growing in a 10L pot, currently its 1.4m tall.

Its certainly not growing as fast as the big mumma in the ground, but here are some pics anyways.

My fastest growing Tricho is Psycho0, but that being said, its in much larger pots than the rest of my collection. I got them as large fat rooted stumps from Alice in Spring 2013.

There is definitely a relationship between pot size and growth speed. Comparing my collection thats been grown in pots to a gardener with cactus in the ground, makes all my cactus look like bonsai.

I saw you mentioned this plant a while ago, Dood, and that it came from SAB store. Do you think it could be the plant they currently sell as "pachanoi 2"? It seems to look very similar.....

Link to the SAB store plant I'm talking about.

Lol. Let's say 2 feet per column for the metrically challenged like me!

I find psycho0 when in ground to be super fast, but I also have an in ground PC that is very quick. Capel pachanoi has grown very fast for me too, more than tripling in size in 13 months from an unrooted cutting. (as a bonus Capel also looks really sexy!) ;)

Below are 3 pics of a pup off of my SAB pachanoi #2 that I mentioned a couple of posts above. I think it looks super similar to the Dood's "OSP", but maybe Watertrade can chime in one day (if he sees this) and he might remember if his pach was called something when he got it from SAB back in the day. I've only had my pachanoi #2 for one summer season so far but it grew very quickly considering it was quite small when I received it, it has at least quadrupled in size over a year.
