Strontium Dawg Posted August 13, 2016 I'm looking to buy bulk qtys of plastic tubes and small pots to deal with the growing army of seedlings I have at the moment. It's just not economical to buy them retail anymore, I just have too many. Where do you guys source wholesale pots and forestry tubes? I was looking at danbar plastics, they seem to have a good range at OK prices. Any good suppliers you've dealt with before? And when I say bulk, I'm talking about hundreds not thousands, maybe next year...!

theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted August 13, 2016 I only use this mob. Don't need a commercial account, awesome prices and about 1/4 the price of danbar who I've also used. Not sure who there supplier is so may not be aust made like GCP or danbar. If it's just tubes you need G I can sort you depending how many you want. I have maybe 100 x 50mm you could have 68mm trays $3.50 http://www.australianorchids.com.au/products/2190272 68mm pots .16c ea per hundred http://www.australianorchids.com.au/products/copy-of-plastic-pots-80mm-squat-pots-x-101 they also have trays for 50mm tubes -$5 http://www.australianorchids.com.au/products/2265395

Halcyon Daze Posted August 13, 2016 (edited) I recycle milk bottles from work You can also get them from cafés, mates etc. I have hundreds of them and I don't even drink milk, not even in my tea. Also, I pack my forestry tubes into broccoli boxes with holes punched in the side of the box rather than the bottom. This creates a water reserve about 1cm in depth. This method allows the tubes to stay moist for at least twice as long, and the broccoli boxes are usually free at the markets. I call it the Halcyon method, you may use it I also get a lot of used potting mix free from work which i mix 50:50 with the mulch I get free from the dump (after sifting out the coarse bits). That's my organic portion, which I usually mix 50:50 with top-dressing loam which is half sand, half blue metal. It costs $25 per trailer load. I use a cement mixer to mix it all up. In the end I get 2 trailer loads of great multi-purpose potting mix for only $25 Which has equal parts potting mix, screened mulch , sand , and blue metal. Just gotta make the most of whatever you can get your hands on sometimes Edited August 13, 2016 by Halcyon Daze

freakazoid Posted August 17, 2016 Some nurseries let their customers return used pots/tubes for recycling and might give them away to nice people for free... You'd need to sterilize them but bleach is cheap...
2XB Posted August 22, 2016 I am just about to order some more supplies and checked out a few links in this thread, I am still going to go through the cssnsw (hamiltons) :-) FYI- I got a pricelist out of garden city plastics, for eg, they sell 85mmx100mm square pot for 19c each per 1000 where the cssnsw sells the same size @ 25c each, no minimum quantity, not worth buying 1000 to save 6c a unit for my circumstances- garden city plastics do have a huge range though! They (CSSNSW) also sell those 68mm ones the dood linked to at the orchid shop for a bit cheaper @ 14c each I'm happy to support the cssnsw and hamiltons for those sized pots and prices :-) I have a queestion..... where do we australians get our large volume square pots from????????? I see these euro collectors with grousse looking square pots, I would love to get my hands on some.. I am making some queries to garden city plastics, but would love to hear of anyone buying these already
