Acacia ID. Assist? (5 trees)

Question

While playing Pokemon go I stumbled across a few acacia trees (I think). Can anyone I'd these? Or do you know a good guide to identifying acacia trees? There's no flowers yet so I dunno if that's a requirement for id'ing.

Hi Zedo,

Possibly A. Maidenii (a broader leaf variety) which flowers in Summer though - and as it looks like there's a little one waiting to burst there in the bottom photo I'd keep an eye on it and see how it looks in a few weeks.

Google images can be a good place to start -be aware thought that you will often get other people's identification queries and photos cropping up too si check the website source.

World Wide Wattle is also very good for working out what's in your area and there is a list of references for Acacia identification here too http://worldwidewattle.com/infogallery/identification/

I should have taken a pic of the trunk of one. Was a deep purple/brown colour between the bark. Thanks I'll start there and see if I can ID them more specificity. Maidenii would be neat though it's not gona get hacked down.

There area few similar looking acacias in SE Qld. Considering it's about to flower and it's July look at concurrens, crassa, julifera, leiocalyx and leptocarpa. There should be some pods among the leaf litter to help you pick between these

Wow yeah they all do look very similar. I'll have to look a bit closer at the leaves and try find some pods. Thanks
