The NCPIC and Jan Copeland have been disbanded, but their propaganda fuck-wittery still keeps on giving:

New teachers to Alice Springs have been given an anti-cannabis pot plant as a welcome gift from the Education Department in a move that has baffled teachers and the education union.

I would not at all be surprised if many teachers and rural areas did have a personal grow going though.  Not a lot to do outside of work  Perhaps there is a strong cannabis culture amongst NT public servants that is a poorly kept secret that they are lashing out against?

I reckon it's just left-overs from another waste-of-money propaganda exercise mate. I guess it was designed to help teachers give the old "Drugs are bad" spiel?

This is so lovely to hear:

https://hightimes.com/news/california-dismiss-marijuana-convictions/

Here’s some groundbreaking and optimistic news: California could dismiss all marijuana convictions from the past 40 years.

Californians with convictions for marijuana-related misdemeanors will see their records cleared, as prosecutors up and down the Golden State begin dismissing convictions going all the way back to 1975. Others with felony convictions could see their offenses reduced to misdemeanors.

@Responsible Choice, wow. The "like" seemed insufficient, this needs a "HOLY SHIT!"

Quote

In San Francisco last week, District Attorney George Gascon announced that his office will be automatically applying provisions of Prop 64 to remove convictions going back to 1975 for activities that are now legal under state law. Gascon noted that policies of the past were unevenly enforced, and disproportionally affected minorities.

“We want to address the wrongs that were caused by the failures of the war on drugs for many years in this country and begin to fix some of the harm that was done not only to the entire nation but specifically to communities of color,” said Gascon.

The first thing I'm gonna do is grow a dirty great big tree of the stuff with massive nugs all over it... not because I smoke, but just because I can. :)

The economic imperative just keeps getting stronger:

https://hightimes.com/news/for-the-first-time-ever-marijuana-sales-top-liquor-sales-in-aspen/

The fateful day is finally here: For the first time ever, marijuana sales top liquor sales in Aspen.

In 2017, marijuana dispensaries raked in a whopping $11.3 million in Aspen alone according to The Aspen Times. This marks a 16% increase from the $9.7 million reported in 2016. This is the first time in US history that marijuana has outsold liquor.

Tasmania opened up the controlled access scheme last September.

Currently the state has 3 approved (trial) patients...... These patients are using imported CBD products....

Wow.  Didn't expect to support much of anything Hanson says, but im with her on this one.  I still think we would all be bettor off as a nation if the just legalised it, or at the very least decrimininalised it.  Average doctor being able to write a script would be a step in the right direction.

I really do hate listening to politicians tho. The self promotion and the constant blaming the other party gets tired.   Imagine the progress we could make if they put all the bullshit aside and just debated an idea on its merits.

One down, two to go I guess? It's pop politics but I don't give a fuck who sets the pace, just hurry up.

https://hightimes.com/news/australian-political-party-proposes-total-cannabis-legalization/

Declaring that prohibition has failed, an Australian political party proposes total cannabislegalization for the country. Sen. Richard Di Natale, the leader of the Australian Greens, announced his party’s new stance Monday, April 16.

The plan would legalize the recreational use of cannabis for adults. They could also legally grow at home up to six plants for personal use. Australia legalized the medicinal use of cannabis in 2016.

Under the Greens’ proposal, the country would regulate and tax marijuana like alcohol and tobacco. The government would create a new agency to be the sole wholesaler of cannabis products. Only licensed retailers could then sell that merchandise to the public.

Promptly shot down by both major parties. Gold star for effort

^ of course, but as long as the Greens are willing to put up the flag they instantly lay claim to the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Aussies, who use cannabis. Regardless of what the other 2 say, they've got plans B to fucking F to avoid it, because massa says "Thou shalt not allow anything to impinge on our market share". What are you gunna do?

But G is for green. Gotta act like you're working for the money, especially when your employer is watching closely aye?

Shortens response was tempered and more moderate than Greg Hunt.  If labor started getting donations from big American pot companies...I feel that we have a chance with labor for at very least decriminalization this upcoming term.

Dr. Wodak has been saying it for years, and here he goes again:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-04-19/why-australia-should-scrap-prohibiting-cannabis-and-start-tax/9671240

Drug policy has surprisingly little effect, if any, on consumption patterns but does produce serious harm.

Cannabis taxation and regulation is an idea whose time has come.

Like the debate about same sex marriage, the idea will seem strange to some in advance but once the reform has been completed we will wonder why it took us so long.

I'm surprised at how quickly we are following in the US path on this one, the pressure is already mounting for legalisation.  I expected the hubbub next decade.

The Greens will be winning loads of votes from people who normally don't want to even participate, with this policy change.

edit: I don't see how same sex marriage ever seemed strange to the average Aussie. The statistics show that it was mostly new immigrants and farmers that voted against it. Go figure.

One of the world's largest cannabis companies is positioning itself for recreational marijuana use to be made legal in Australia, amid fresh political debate about the proposed reform.

Anyone watch Four Corners last night?

It seems things are moving quicker than I anticipated in the rush to get rec cannabis up. Once the venture capitalists get the lobbyists involved it's a foregone conclusion.

It's funny RC, two years ago you, @Yeti101 and I put ourselves out there in a Senate committee hearing, and I honestly didn't hold out much hope that anything would change. Now I'm hearing Richard Di Natale campaigning with what sounds like our submissions almost verbatim.

What is shitting me though is that it's the rich who, yet again, are about to make all the money and I hope there is room for small operators in the end. I've decided that's what I'd like to spend the rest of my life doing if I can make a legitimate go of it. Small scale, high quality organic ganja for connoisseurs, in a vertically integrated business that is my own.

Bro. I would like to take this moment to formally accuse Glaukus of stealing my fantasy. :o

With that out of way, I actually expected this last year. I've been carrying the flame of, not hope, but fiscal inevitability. I wish it were otherwise, but as you say the fat cats can put the breaks on only long enough to position themselves in the market, and then the money-making must begin!!

My expectation is that it will be a top down scenario, not unlike alcohol in this country, where you have your major producers,

but there is still room for the boutique/niche producers who provide for the discerning minority.
