myladyluck Posted March 12, 2016 Hey SAB, I'm working on a project to supply Peyote Buttons at great prices. Its all still in the initial growing stage at the moment, so sales are still a few months off yet. I will post a few updates along the way once the project is all well established and near ready for sales. There will be a few giveaways prior to sales to even out the shipping process and ensure the arrival of healthy specimens. myladyluck

myladyluck Posted August 25, 2016 Update - Got around 30 buttons that will be ready to degraft from the peres in around a month or so. I reckon they will need growing out for around 6 months or so and then will be ready to make availabe sometime next year. I'm thinking of degrafting them between 30-40mm. I have already degrafted 3 at about 35mm cutting one high on the button (increase chance of stock resprouting), medium (best of both) and low on the button (increase chance of degraft rooting). currently after around a month the high button has not rooted but the stock is sprouting peyote pups. The low cut button has rooted after around 2 weeks but the stock has shriveled and will not resprout peyote pups. The medium cut has done neither, with no roots on the degraft and no pups on the stock. I think it would probably be best to just sacrifice the stock to ensure a healthy degraft and just start arain from seed next round. I have a couple of questions for the community- What is the going rate for per cm diameter for degrafted and rooted peyote buttons? What is the most ideal size to degraft, taking into consideration post degraft growth form, ease of rooting and price of sale? I'm thinking 35-40mm And would anyone be keen to see pics? BedOSpines Posted August 25, 2016 I would be keen to see pics this is a 4 cm degraft it rooted no problem at all with peres completely removed. Its starting to look more normal everyday. From what I've read you dont want to go too much bigger. Ill be trying some bigger ones next year. I cant comment on the price, not everyone will pay ebay prices.
theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted August 25, 2016 Nice work lady luck! In your original post you say you want to supply them at a great price... I'd say a 3-4cm one at $20 is a great price. I'd buy more if they were this price anyways

(the grower may want a bit more for the monstrous ones) according to the grower, these are seed grown & the seeds were sown on 4-10-15......... the grower said they'd only sell by the potful so which ones ya want??

Woah! Less than 12 months old! I must be doing something wrong. The ones I sowed in September last year are lucky to be 5mm in diameter. They're extremely hard grown though. Kudos to the grower!

myladyluck Posted August 26, 2016 Thanks for all the responses and interest in the project. @Bedofspines Pretty little degraft. I'm glad that your buttons are quickly taking a desirable form post grafting. And thanks for the degrating size info. i think I'll stick with 30mm-40mm to allow for easier rooting and increase the rate as which the degraft take on a desirable form. Also, I'm with you on the trays of buttons. Show us the tap roots!! @theuserformallyknownasd00d Great to hear you are interested in buying a few buttons when they are ready to post. Thanks for letting me know what you think is a good price ($20 per button as you will buy more). I was thinking maybe the following - 1 x rooted button = $30 2 x rooted button = $50 4 x rooted button = $80 Express postage is $12 extra per order. Are these fair prices and in keeping with the original purpose of the project, to provide Peyote Buttons at great prices? What would be the standard price for 30mm-40mm rooted degraft peyote buttons? I have set up a PayPal for payment. Is this a good payment option for people? I can also provide bank details to receive funds. @zelly Great looking little buttons zelly. If they are growing in Australia I'm in for some real stiff competition. I would love to see how fast they can grow buttons on peres. 2 weeks to 30mm!! @Bedofspines On to the pics This pic shows the test degrafts. The left plant shows the small degraft (upside down on top of the stock). the degraft has not rooted but the stock has sprouted 2 pups. The middle shows no action on either. The right stock has shriveled and the degraft (upside down on the soil surface of the pot) is showing lots of root action. Top left is the rooted button. The other two are showing no signs of rooting. And here are all the up and comers. I will degrafting the majority very soon I think. One more time soaking the pots in dilute seasol/fish emulsion and I think they will be ready to go. Thanks again for all the interest.

myladyluck Posted October 26, 2016 Update. All the buttons are down now rooting. All but 9 have already rooted. The 9 have only been down for a week or so and will root in a around 2 weeks. I'm leaving these guys to develop a decent root system for a few more months and then I'll be looking for some good homes to grow them on. There is also 5 cut stock that are resprouting buttons so I should get a few more in a couple of months.
