BedOSpines Posted March 5, 2016 Hi guys, This yellowing popped up on the side which faces the sun. will they toughen up to this or should they be more shaded? seemingly only on the newer growth.
Conv3rgence Posted March 5, 2016 I had this, it just scars up and a bit of it returns to green again. I didn't move them, I just rotated the sunburnt side to face the shade instead. It seems to happen at extreme heat or when the cacti are diverting resources elsewhere, like making a pup.
BedOSpines Posted March 5, 2016 cool, thanks man. yea today the sun really seamed to burn more than usual. seemed to get sunburn myself quite quick. do think this is more likely to happen if the soil is bone dry? it had been bone dry for a few days before this happened. Philocacti Posted March 6, 2016 If what you have is the same as this Then, according to EG, it's some sort of virus infection, not sun damage.
BedOSpines Posted March 6, 2016 Aye, good point there Philo. That pic, the tip is leaning, being fungal I'm guessing the infected area is squishy and causing the lean?
Philocacti Posted March 6, 2016 Not really, I have a few bridgesii & bridgesii hybrids that do that in winter. This is an SS02Xpachanoi.
☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) i think the virus is mosaic virus .. not saying thats what ya got but in ref to EG's virus info .. maybe he will see and post too? i was just posting to warn ... if you turn it round and then get another scorcher.. you might burn the good side .. some foresight sun shading perhaps? (if sun is the cause) Edited March 9, 2016 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ
BedOSpines Posted March 9, 2016 So I checked today and it seems to not be getting worse. the damaged spots where somewhat softer than the green tissue but it seems to be drying out and hardening up. I'm going to turn one of them around and see what comes of it. I have a big opuntia pad that did the same thing after a really hot day and the colouring seems to come and go? some-days its green, others very noticeable yellow patches. The big fat scop seems to be loving it though. the plants with damage where under artificial light for a fair bit of there life. I had considered making a shade house type effort but yea. won't they etoliate?
