I guarantee you its fucking worth it 100% and now show off your Browningia hertlingiana's we know some US members got some impressive specimens alright this blue columnar is perhaps one of the bluest cacti and relatively rare . I long wanted to get it, and since I get on along with columnars, I tripled its sizes... should I prevent it from getting wet in winter, or should i get it to be a man and learn what greek winter is about? zed240 Posted November 23, 2015 (edited) Here is mine. It got frost damaged about 3 months ago. It has bounced back now though. It's starting to get super fat now it's been planted out in the ground. Got mine from Bunnings, (hardware store). Only cactus to get frost damage here were this one and a hairy pilosocereus. All the trichos were fine. Some shots before it got frost damaged. In winter when damaged.Slightly after the damage and starting to grow out again.I will edit this to show you a pic of the BIG Browningia hertlingiana at the Huntington Botanic Garden later tonight too. Now that sucker is BLUE! [EDIT] - shitty picture. It was a super bright day and I thought I'd get a pic from another angle from the other side. Oh well. Some frost, between 3 and 13, (maximum, not often this many), days of frost per year really. But frost is only at night or early morning and some years might be milder and with less frosts. I tried growing some of these from seed purchased from Koehres with no luck on germination at all, the B. candelaris germinated well, but not nearly as pretty a plant. To be honest I didn't expect it to go that fast. But I put it in a relatively large pot. I have it for some 9 months.
