its been ages since i sowed mine, i almost gave up. After about 3 weeks under lights, i took mine off the heat mats and out of the fishtank and put them into baggies placed on the patio outside where they get a tiny bit of morning light. Another 3 weeks later, i saw the first sprout (about 2 days ago.) Ill post pics later, but so far only one sprout. The caapi seeds i had sprouted in under 2 weeks so this was a real test of patience. Luckily no mold or fungus problems.

Here's the sprout. No other sprouts so far. I'm beginning to wonder if the butterfly wings have impeded the seedlings progress. Perhaps I should've trimmed them.

Mine took something like two months to sprout I think, I assume theyre just slower than caapi. I can't imagine the wings matter much as in nature they aint gonna have anyone to clip them off for them, and they've survived up until now, and the wings would assist in spreading seed further anyway.

Theyre cool plants though and my one seems to grow quicker than my caapi seedlings too.

Well done though mate, hope ya get a nice chunky vine from em.

G'day Rahli, mate I apologise for taking so long to get back to you and this thread, have been flat out with work of late...

Anyways I have an interesting development regarding the Alicia seeds you sent me.

I managed to get four of the seeds you sent me to germinate and all are going strong(I promise photos soon).. Where it gets interesting is that 3 of the four seedlings have          opposite leaf pattern which is typical of Alicia anisopetala, the other one of the seedlings though is whorled leaf pattern.

I have asked someone who is much more knowledgeable than me regarding plants and they have said that it is extremely rare for the same species of plant to show different leaf patterns, not impossible but incredibly rare. They have suggested that what is much more likely is that the plant in question is either a different species or cross fert. etc may of happened.

Would love to know your thoughts bro?

Anyways mate, I apologise once again for not getting back to you but man am I busy at the moment:huh:.

Great to hear on news of a stand out plant.

The seeds are definitely all from the same vine. I may have had a caapi flowering at the same time but she nevef set seed for me.

I don't have any ideas on why it is whorled.

I would love to see pics.

Not much to update from my end, it's winter here and they aren't growing at all, but they aren't dying either. Got one big seedling and two small ones, all look pretty good overall.

Ok some pics... The first pic is of all four plants, the plant in the top left is displaying the whorl arrangement, the second pic is a side by side comparison of the whorl and one of the typical Alicia, the last pic is the plant in question.

Sorry bout the quality of pics but you can still see what i'm getting at.

Since we can rule out different species it seems to suggest either a cross has happened or a rare occurrence, mutation??

Either way thanks to Rahli I believe I have a very special plant indeed:wub:.

Seeds are ripening now.

I will have a few lots to give away to folks willing to give growing this vine a shot and updating their experience in the thread.

Put in your requests in the thread below. I'll send out to 5 or so members.

Cheers
