Hey Bogfrog,

Looks great. Guessing that's not Dunedin anymore....

Did you manage to retain any of your Trich collection you used to have?

Getafix

Thanks all!

And hey Getafix, believe it or not it is! And yeah still have 3/4s of my plants at my friends and my mums houses, cause I've been slow on the uptake this year and until recently circumstances haven't been appropriate for having 30-50ish spikey as heck trichs around.

Once I get a free weekend with vehicle access then some things gonna change around here.

I am trying to decide if I should get another greenhouse or not..

I'm more excited about the location / scenery than i am about the plants...Seriously bogfrog, that looks like an awesome place to be living. The house looks great too. I bet it all has a really nice feeling to it. :)

I will be following this thread, cause i do like the plants also, lol. Onya bogz. :)

Thanks buddy. It really is wonderful. Couldn't believe my luck and still barely can. I've been being extra extra nice to my landlady and tending the hens, ducks and geese and working in the vege garden with hopes she'll let me stay on long term.

Wait till you guys see the worm farms..omg. Never seen anything like it. I have so much worm castings its ridiculous.

Beautiful house and property, with a pretty colourful history. It has fallen to neglect a little over the last 15 years or so. Guess that's why I'm here. Put a bit of new energy into the place, get it lively again. And so very lively it is..

Round 2..

Nitrogen Crests have been repotted and to some extent debugged,

Still battling with a bit of mealy.. Best super mealy destruction technique advice appreciated!

I used to always just sqiush em but because they are in crest crevices that approach is quite time consuming and ineffective

Newly sown trichocereus seeds (listed in first post) are just beginning life, under watchful eye of clay mother

Some are a bit slow. The SG sausage were waay ahead of the pack, germination in about 3 days with those

I recently got gifted some pere by two awesome peeps I have traded with in the past. Incredible to be able to restock a pere farm just like that thanks to the generosity of others. Blew me away.

And oh boy.. Generosity...! Dawnbeaver sent me heaps of fat pere and these two beauties!! Couldn't believe my eyes..so happeey :)

Ariocarpus retusus zone

post-8023-0-42859400-1441771782_thumb.jp

And I've started repotting a few trichocereus, the potting medium they are in looks all used up so I will have to upsize the pots of everything gradually. Adding a bit of Suscon Green to the mix to combat root mealy where it shows itself. Hopefully can keep on top of it.

Here's a bridgesii grafted onto a Yowie and another TBM form, very slow growing..

That's all from me for the moment. I'll report back with future developments

Awesome! Looks perfect. I have been told mealy bug are water resistant though, I wonder if this will effectively stick to them. I think water just runs off them and doesn't soak into the fluff.

I first treated the crests by dabbing meths on the mealy bugs with a small paintbrush and then washing them and keeping them out of the sun in the days afterward. I thought this would have killed them for sure but a week later I see they are just carrying on like nothing happened...?

I will get some natrasoap and try it anyway as it looks good and sounds like it works for mites aswell..I've got the odd few of those too.

Thanks!

Well, it's worth a try anyway. I've never used it as I've never had to deal with mealies on my cacti so far...(fingers crossed).

Of course you should! If you have to ask then the answer is yes. B)

Your place looks pretty awesome!

As far as mealies I have had ok success with rubbing alcohol and physical removal with a hose or sink sprayer. The challenge is that inevitably I miss a few and they eventually repopulate. I also think they hangout in the soil making them harder to get to. There is a horticultural oil that I had success with (don't recall name/brand) on my hoyas, however you cant use it on cacti or succulents, and even with the hoyas I had to be careful to not burn the leaves.

A lil update... Gardens been displaced once more except this time I have moved islands!

Have brought some stuff with me but the major focus this year was raising stuff from seed with my plant-loving bf.

We have produced around 700 seedlings this season (...*gulp*) and I've been working on the pereskiopsis grafts, got up to about the 70~80 mark now (yay for pere)

Haven't taken photos of everything yet but this will give a glimpse!

Some sharxx blue x TPM grafts

My first row of graduates (from the moisture chamber) ..these lil guys were gifted some jasper topping stones to mark their progression into the real world of sunlight and inconsistent humidity.

And this ain't my plant but dang, I have gotten to know it very well taking around 100 clones from it in the last few months... This is not something you see everyday!!! Or in my case - ever before!

Pere in bloom today :)
