All about girth.

Question

I have recently acquired this monster from a member here, you know who you are, legend.

A beauty from the secret garden.

What do you think this is? Clearly an old plant. The pic with the wine glass and next to Eileen give you an idea of the girth of this beast.

Very excited to have this added to my collection.

Hey Guys, first one has very rounded spine bases. That actually screams Cuzco/Peru. So I somehow agree with Bullit, though I think this one definitely has Cuzco genetics.

Super Pedro gets those same swollen spine bases on older growth too.

Really, that´s interesting. Scops usually don´t have swollen spine bases. If someone happens to have a pic of that on the Super Pedro, I´d love to see it. So far, we though that it would be some kind of a Scop/Pachanoi hybrid. And neither should have the swollen spine bases.

Not the best pics of mine as it's nightime. Also, my plant doesn't display it as much yet as ones I've seen in others gardens. But it's getting there.

A younger areole, note the middle spine's base.

And one from older growth.

Thanks for the input all.

I certainly agree with the possibility of Scop in there but not sold on the Cuzco theory.

Another mutt to admire.

Very funky plant. The rib shape on some of the pics look like a Scop! But never seen such spines on a Scop so it will be really interesting to watch this plant. You should definitely name it so we can keep track of it. It definitely deserves a name.

maybe it can be spelt Helon, like melon, his may stop any confusion between this plant and Helen the bridgesii

it looks like an over ripe watermelon going yellow in the sun.
