Lost my favourite dog yesterday, my best mate- Some poems about her.

Recommended Posts

Sad day for me, amazing the depth of human emotion. She was just over 4 and just had an unplanned (people nearby who dont like me let their male roam onto my property I assume to annoy me, I let her off the chain to go piss/shit and he got her) litter (2 weeks old) which Im now bottle feeding. Ive got two of her pups from a previous litter and another bitch that was pups with her but there are dogs, and then there are those special dogs. She was one of the special ones to me. Wonder how many of those one gets in a lifetime. Good signal for change I think!

Bush Dogs

Once a bush dog, who chased bull and pig,

Now a city dog, must chase ball and stick.

Once we chase animals, and eat what we kill,

Now we go to the dog park for a quick thrill.

Once no fences, yeah we roamed free,

Now all tied up, get let off to pee.

Once we jumped over, dead logs and plants,

Now we line up, jump onetime over fence.

Once we roam free, out upon the plains,

Now all leashes, collars and clinking chains.

There we bark to warn of danger,

Here we bark at every stranger.

There we knew freedom like no one else could,

Here we still hear the call, when no one else would.

Nothing here will break us, no person, fence or tether.

For we are strong, unbreakable, as long as were are together.

Yasi

A mongrel dog, black and tan,

Barely skin and bone,

A bush dog if there was one

Free in the bush she roams.

She helps me hunt, she is my life,

She keeps me warm at night.

As long as she’s alive,

I know she’ll be by my side.

So sad. Sorry to hear of your loss mate.

We have a dog like that right now, Lucy, a Border Collie x Blue Heeler. There's just something special about her and we'd be devastated to ever lose her.

Awesome poem and good luck with the pups.

Sorry to hear that mate. Poetry has always helped me process difficult emotions too. May she rest in peace.

so sorry to read about your loss mate

i can only add this track here and no real useful comments apart from that this song encapsulates my sorrow for lost loves and pets and the lyrics just blow me away.

give the pups a tickle from me.

Sorry Teo. Few things worse than losing a loved pet. Life sucks some times.

Sadness

Hope she had a nice funeral and that the other dogs can give you as much as she did.

Plant a nice bush or tree on her, her energy will live on

Very sad, sorry to hear mate.

The connection between man/woman and dog is a strong one.

i'm so sorry to hear Teo :( i quite recently lost a truly once in a lifetime friend too.. she had a similar-ish story to your's.. She was one of a large litter from two dogs that had close ties to our family, very hard to explain but there were interesting synchronistic overtones to the story of her litter.. I picked her out when she was a couple of days old, it was as though she had a halo around her.. I instantly knew she was one, total instant connection. As it turns out every other dog in that litter turned out to have some kind of issue & didn't live more than a year..

perhaps if you've never experienced such a connection with a dog it would be easy to underestimate the crippling grief we can go through we we lose them. I know how you feel man, am thinking of you!

Sorry to hear that Teo. Losing pets can be heaps harder than losing humans.

Pets are family to me. Ive lost my mother and father and a sweet cat. I let myself weep equally for all.

Sorry to hear. I feel your pain.

Thanks everyone for the stories and photos. Im truly gutted. Im not a big people person so she was everything- I dont click with many people. The only loss I could put on par with loosing her would be my brother. Ive always felt alone in this world, even with friends and in a crowd, she was my friend, my whole life was based around her.

Cremated her on top of the hill near my house overlooking the ocean, might carve her name in a rock and leave it there.

The future will happen slowly I guess.

Sorry to hear, and thanks for sharing.

Attachment and loss are hard and strange, especially with the deep entanglement we sometimes allow for dogs!

Absolutely feeling for you, Teo. Not many more horrible things than to lose a loved animal friend. I was going to say a lot more but I'm getting too emotional and don't want a headache from crying :-/
