When I grabbed those seeds a lady I was with grabbed a whole plant. She should know the name. The picture doesn't do it justice. Its like a meter long and so fat.

Don't see the hairy apex that ingens "should" have and from what I've read it only flowers from said apex and has hairy fruits so I'd be more leaning towards a Ferocactus.

I only say that because i have been to that garden and the lady had a kick-ass collection of feros, as well as echinocactus mind you.

But she gave me this fella who i think is a baby version, but horridus and wislizeni are pretty similar hey.

but i am 99% certain it's a ferocactus. Interestingly this plant is around 30yrs old... the plant in the original post not my photo.

was thinking ferocacactus too ... not horridus, f.wislizeni seems like a nice guess with persistent yellowish fruit but I cant see hooked or colour spines, nor hair

Yeah, F. wislizeni has a downward hooked central spine, but the one in oyster's picture doesn't.

[edit out]

I thought it might be horridus after all but no

agreed, the hooked spine on wislizeni is a problem, i thought it grew out with age but that was incorrect.

Ferocactus cylindraceus, Ferocactus covillei? I've no idea!
