Eagerly awaiting the giveaeay! :)

Pimento, do you know maybe if that validus is the one from Fields cactus farm? The smaller one you posted the picture of seems like it to me, have you seen the mother plant? Thanks!

cool  I'm glad you'd like to grow them mate.

the little i know about the validus is this -

The original plant or plants were located by Mr X in South Australia, there are several amazingly gobsmacking and shockingly succulent validus trees in the Secret Garden. Some with dichotomous heads, other are multi headed and so thick and luscious.

They are awesome cactus to see in the flesh, they have a presence thats for sure.

not to many flower pods on them. there were 200 seeds tops in both validus pods that i have cleaned.

The validus are one of Mr X's favourite cacti, the lovely plant i ended up with was suppose to be replanted in the Secret Garden, it was dug up to be moved, not to be chucked out. I spied it laying there whilst we were loading up and after a chat realised that it wasn't on offer.

after the days work, his great Xness gave me the validus as he musta decided i was ok :innocent_n:

I have given my word to him that i will never cut the validus plant that he has given me, as i am honour bound, i won't.

very much look forward to seeing what the seeds grow out like as they are opens

cleaned the 2 validus pods separately and have kept the seeds separate incase they were pollinated by different plants.

I am on the edge of my seat. Awesome man! Thanks be to you and Mr x. This shit just got global! Keen for the impending giveaway. This is gonna be a huge boost in the trich gene pool I would think :)

So cool! :P

Wow I'd love to grow some out as well. It would be amazing to have some open pollinated Aussie genetics growing here in CA.

Nice! Is their girth noticeably larger than 'regular' Trichocereus?

A couple are already sown and grafting stock is ready, can't wait to see what they grow into!

The validus were huge man, some where double headers, some multi branched

easy 300mm girth for the smaller plants, much thicker than a normal trich.

I've asked people who have been sent seed to post their germination and grow results here.

We have lift-off!

Please ignore the ghetto 'growing chamber', I was in a hurry and just wanted to sow those designated for grafting as soon as possible.

I'm cross-posting here, but it looks like lost at customs roulette with the seeds pimento so generously shared. Is there anybody here in the US who got their seeds who is willing to part with a few of each type? I'm more than happy to compensate in some way if necessary.

The seeds made it over safe and sound, thanks again! I've only put down the Psycho0 and Goliath op seeds so far, I'll see to the rest soon. The Goliath seeds took a few days longer to germinate, but they are coming along fine now. I'll keep you updated

Here are some of many pimento...

All have shown great vigour I can sense greatness amongst these seeds.

Germ rates are sweet at around 90%

Just wanted show a shot of the werdermanius abg open... huge! All seeds down at same time. 5c coin indicative of size and life savings! ;-)...

Thanks pimento and of course Mr. X!!!!post-13277-0-89721500-1435644193_thumb.jpost-13277-0-04974700-1435644167_thumb.jpost-13277-0-94337000-1435644149_thumb.j

I looked at my grafts today, one validus and one werdermannianus took, they are both growing nicely, and the werd seems to be going crested, but is still tiny. I'll post some pics when they grow a bit more.

Does anybody know how likely it is for a 2 mm seedling to already show crsted characteristics and to continue growing in this way? Or is it more likely that this appearance was caused by some sort of damage and the plant will revert to normal growth?
