eBay/Gumtree finds

yeah, its from the original grower. A member here. I don't think its a good idea to invest in a bit of csd for future profit. There's a bunch of people that have dozens of grafts that will be released over the next 12 months and the price will deflate quickly. It has become more sought after because of EG's book... It is also a very slow grower...

I hope you're right.  I somewhat feel incomplete without it as it's basically the ultimate hype clone but screw paying $700+ for it.

Yeah face book, awhile ago when i frist heard of csd, whent looking for it typed in csd in the search thingy, there was cactus page selling csd cuts at remarkably low prices, also found a bloke talking about his csd cactus that he grew from seed who had a similar name to the bloke selling cheap csd cuts. As i understand it the original was from cuts handed out to few lucky sab members as rememoral for a dead member who originally grew the original

But i could be completely wrong if so i apologize

I too facebook stalked him and saw lots of cuts going for $150-200.  There's no way in hell it's worth the asking price on ebay when he's palming them off that cheaply, well cheaply by comparison anyway.

I bet that second one is the first "CSD" that doesn't sell.  It might be legit but it certainly doesn't look right.  My guess is he saw the last legit CSD go for $939 and figured his scop hybrid looked somewhat like the original mother plant and that there would be someone desperate enough to pay 2/3 the cost on the off chance it was real.

CSD might be be bee's knees but for $600 - $1000 there's a hell of a lot more on offer on the bay at rip off prices that will save you a ton of cash.  For example I recently paid $26 for mine but this $75 - $150 Roseii#2 comes to mind: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Trichocereus-Peruvianus-Rosei-2-30cm-cactus-Clone-Cutting/233082773510

There's also a Sharxx Blue for anyone that wants to get into a serious bidding war

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Peruvian-Torch-Trichocereus-Echinopsis-peruvianus-Sharxx-Blue-Cutting/273637386254

So many great cuts have been put up this year alone and at reasonable prices that it could never be justified to pay the asking price for any CSD on ebay but doubly so if you facebook stalk the original grower because you can see he has a long history of palming it off for well under $200.  I'm almost inclined to open a facebook account just to get in on that action but even still I just got 6 hype name cuts for $190 (including postage too) off ebay so justifying it for a single plant is almost unimaginable to me.  It would made for a nice flex though.

Both of those CSD auctions are via SAB members, not sure how much time either of them spend here recently but they're both friends of mine and legit.

Personally I think it's ludicrous the price people are paying for this plant at the moment, but hey I guess you can't take it with you and money is for spending on whatever makes you happy.

Now, a crested loph, if I had the money, I'd happily pay the same so go figure!

Think ones just a multi head going weird cause its on a graft, but the double headed varigated graft is something i would consider spending $$$ on.....but im in "trying to save" $$$ mode" atm and broke is a big barrier to get around

I see the same thing on there all the time but in particular with lophs.  They'll call them LW Cactus and then list half a dozen different varieties to show up in people's searches.  Here's a tame example: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LW-Cactus-Massive-8-5-cm-head-golden-torch-Trichocereus-graft-15cm-pot/264127709048?hash=item3d7f3cff78:g:Fp8AAOSwjwZcLYGk:rk:13:pf:0

Yeah some times you gotta keep your eyes open scored this loph garft for under a $100, not a mention of lw, button or loph anywhere in the auction. It was listed as a astro

But this one.....idk

I got it from Sam 2/3 years ago and rooted it, so it has been on own roots for 2 plus years now, the one you seem sure about is obviously a recent degraft because of the large spines!

Not many going up for sale that arent degrafts so Im happy to confirm its the real thing, not some Scop hybrid.

I got given a piece for free a couple years back as a bonus to a trade. I'm getting mighty suss that it ain't CSD at all. Can't even remember who it was because it was only mentioned in the letter, not in the PM.

I got it for free, so I doubt it was intentionally misnamed.

Anyway I reckon it's over-hyped anyway. Just because it looks obese or stunted or whatever, doesn't mean much at all. So what if it looks like that.

Sorry for not believing the original listing, it's just that the pics don't do it justice to an untrained eye.

On a side not here's a tasmanian loph some of you might be interested in though again with the multiple not this varieties in the title lol :)

Hey there, I've bought cacti from you in the past.  I'm especially find of the grafted lophs, They're growing like mad and I couldn't be happier with them so thanks a bunch :)

It's a shame I've sent myself into the poor house from buying too many cacti already otherwise I'd be bidding like a madman on some of your listings.  You've really put up a decent selection that makes looking at going into some serious debt sound very reasonable lol

Hi @Trichocereus_Rhinocerous nice plants! I got curious when I saw "clone #1" and "clone #2" cuttings for Eileen and psycho0. Do you know what the story is with that?

I believe it's meant to just be #1, #2 since there are 2 listings for each, not that there are multiple Eileen clones

Here's another Sharxx Blue that's definitely going to end in another bidding war as it's an astoundingly pretty cactus.  Those blues, those spines, I'm in love
