Myoporum acuminatum

Recommended Posts

Myoporum acuminatum :

- has shown a 'moderately positive reaction' for the presence of alkaloids [1] The leaf, fruit, stem and whole plant have shown weak to strong positive reactions for alkaloids [2, 3]
- has been found to contain furanosesquiterpenes (oxygenated farnesols) in the volatile oil - including the toxic ngaione and derivatives. Other sesquiterpenes of differing toxicity may also be present: myodesmone and isomyodesmone, toxic furanoid ketones, have been isolated from M. acuminatum along with the precursors myoporone and dehydromyoporone [1, 4]

Does anyone have any other information about this plant? I'm particularly interested if anyone can point me towards any studies that may detail the constituent alkaloids, or towards any traditional uses of the plant.

Thanks :)
