manic Posted January 11, 2015 Just thought I would share a pic of my coffee cherries that are ripening up. Quite proud of this one, has been grown outdoors for three years with some slight winter protection, it has endured -5 degree nights on a regular base during winter. The plant flowered late summer early autumn and I have began picking the cherries within the last week. I was expecting the fruit to drop during winter due to cold temps but it managed to pull through without much trouble at all. In total there are 23 cherries which will mean 46 beans, hoping that will be enough for a cup! The cherries are from a drawf arabica tree, I also have some normal arabica seedlings aswell, only 3/6 survived the winter but the 3 are really starting to take off now. Perhaps if I dont have enough for a cuppa I might try germinating the beans as its a really beautiful tree.
