And I planted some multicoloured maize a couple of weeks ago post-12747-0-10729200-1412147438_thumb.j

I am using chicken poo enhanced sugarcane mulch and seasol. 100% organic, cause thats how I roll bitch

On that note, my kids got into my discarded corn seeds and one seems to have germinated!

Not sure if I will proceed with a guerrilla grow or just attempt to keep this single plant going...

I got about 20 multicoloured corn in the ground now. I'm waiting til they grow a foot tall then planting out some climbing beans at the bases. I sowed some squash too but can't tell em apart from the zucchini seedlings, but will eventually plant those out As the ground cover

Here's a pic from a week ago, multicolour corn ~4ft tall.

Today it is 6" and starting to throw silks and shit. Mega super plants. Grown with the 3 sisters all in unison and providing epic goods already. Will update pics tomorrow hopefully of my two patches

Looks like I am out of the competition. Fucking rats from my feral neighbours yard have destroyed my whole crop in a couple of nights. THIS MEANS WAR!!! All rats must die now

Yeah mine were pretty close to my chicken coop, but I haven't had a problem with rats before. I saw one lastnight and I gotta say it was one of the fattest, healthiest looking rats I have ever seen. I guess all those good organic veges and chicken food are doing them the world of good. I hope your corn survives prioritise. I actually had to buy some corn to bait some rat traps with because there is none left in my garden. So sad

I'm gonna pick some corn tomorrow and post a pic hopefully! How do you know corn is ready to pick? This is my first year growing em

wait until the tassles start to turn brown, then peel back a bit of the husk to expose some kernels. squeeze a couple of them and the juice that comes out should be milky and not clear when the cob is ripe. then cook it on the bbq straight away.and realize how much nicer corn is when it is freshly picked. mmmm...... fresh corn
