0 Evil Genius Posted June 5, 2014 Hey Philo, left one should be Echinocactus grusonii and the right one is Notocactus, now Parodia. I think it´s Notocactus magnificus.

0 mutant Posted June 29, 2014 on the notocactus: there are three simlar species magnificus warasii and leninghausii I am growing some of what I believe to be warasii, but I might also got a magnificus or two.. warasii is the fastest and is more likely the species found in the market but you might have found yrself a magnificus indeed can be left wet the whole winter season on the roof - If I can do it, then you sure can the same with echinocactus
0 hostilis Posted June 30, 2014 I see notocactus magnificus being sold in big box stores all the time.
0 Philocacti Posted June 30, 2014 Thanks a lot mutant, so how would I find out......from the flowers??? It never flowered yet
0 Evil Genius Posted June 30, 2014 Its a magnificus. They look a bit different. Got lots of notocacti with the collection two years ago.
0 mutant Posted June 30, 2014 Yeah, its rather a magnificus as the wool in the areoles makes a united "line" down the rib... the lenningahausi is the most different of the three all it seems, and all flowers are yellow and I think almost identical. I also get the impression that warasii pup earlier, thus I think I also got a magnificus which is about at the same ages and shape as yours... I can take a photo of all 3 entries from a nice book I got and send you or you can get it , I cannot stress how much I recommend this book. its small and paractical and full of knowledge, despite the catch title 500 cacti.. did I say its fucking cheap?
0 prier Posted July 1, 2014 lennys are well different, warassi is less common, more heavily spined than mags, para grew a bunch of warassis a while ago, but that's defs a mag
0 mutant Posted July 1, 2014 Interesting, so I can show you by biggy Notos and you tell me if they're warasii or magnificus?? can you show me a photo of a real warasii? There are also reasons to believe there might be intermediates - or that all species come from the same common ancestor, as they occur more or less in different locations of the same region (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) Sure they will hybridise with one other, no?
