Spanishfly Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) A seedling about 2 cm across - from a nursery in the UK. I brought it to Spain in 2001 and it loves the conditions here. Edited October 20, 2015 by Spanishfly
nut Posted October 21, 2015 I didn't know they could get that big so rapidly. What kind of soil, water and fertiliser regime?
Spanishfly Posted October 21, 2015 Basically I try to emulate their conditions in habitat - where June, July & September are the wet months. Well draining soil, just a little nutrition, lots of grit and limestone. In the summer it doesn´t rain here but they get a good soaking once a week. From September to November I let God water them (he did last night). December to Feb totally dry - in cold frames, but as much light as possible. When I am watering a light low N, higher P & K fert about every third water.

Spanishfly Posted October 29, 2015 myco, what a refreshing change it is to see good quality plants growing naturally on their own roots in attractive pots, neatly labelled. Nice.
Philocacti Posted October 31, 2015 Do A. fissuratus flower before other Ariocarpus species?
Spanishfly Posted November 1, 2015 Philocacti - all of my Ariocarpus flower in October - all within a fortnight or so of each other. If any one flowered the first this year (and I think A. fissuratus was about in the middle) it may not do so next year.
Philocacti Posted November 1, 2015 Thanks my friend. I've had 3 A. fissuratus for almost 5-6 years and they flower each fall. I'm probably impatient, but 2 flowered this season so far. This year I added 6 different species and non of them are showing signs of budding.
Myeloblast Posted November 4, 2015 A couple A. fissuratus were the first Ariocarpus plants in my collection to flower this year at the end of September, retusus were the last to start flowering. Lots of plants still producing flowers this season though, and none of the lloydii's have opened up yet. Got a new camera and took some pics...still getting used to the new format These are all own-roots plants for the likes of Spanishfly...
