Nice looking cactus nut, I would guess it is a Pilosocereus.

Yeah I really don't know, there is one image that comes up if cereus forbesii is googled which looks exactly like this.its the only photo online I can find similar.i was shocked when I saw it.last time I did it was just those few dull green sections at the base.

I think I may be able to get some more cuts from the original source, ive a feeling that its getting water from one of the gardens on the other side of the fence,as its in a corner there is three possibilities.its in pure Perth (west aus)coastal plain sand which is about as average as a soil gets.as I said I've done 0 to help it along!yes Dreamwalker it's awesome the way that colour transition occurs.my entire collection is in pots so I don't know what to do about that.leave it or pot it.i think ill leave it to become a beastie and then reevaluate.

I would like to ask another question, why does the offset have such intense spine growth compared to the main columns same growth, heat from its proximity to the fence? Any idea?

an image search brings up both blues and greens and some with a lot less spines, there seems a lot of variation, I have a green Cereus validus or forbesii, same as the lower stem colour,

I prefer the blues.
