Anything in SE QLD yet? Anyone?

322 posts in this topic

Just wondering if anyone has been lucky enough to have come across cubes yet.

With so little rain so far through summer I'm assuming the wait is till on.

If not and I've missed my opportunity...FUCK! :BANGHEAD2:

The suspense, and reading of various older posts on the topic, is too much now.

Cheers.

Look for the lower parts of the paddocks and through the large tufts bro, they were out in Sydney During nov with no rain so I'm sure you'll find something

There were a some about a month ago up the top end of Numinbah valley.

Quite a few around at the time but they only seemed to appear for about 5 or 6 days when it wet enough.

Same went for most of the other short lived mushrooms as well, just short flushes while the moisture was available.

so they don't continuously pop up for a few months that way? I guess your heat is alot more extreme than down this way.

Looks more like Panaeolus papilionaceus or something to me, or at least you have a mixed bag.

Cyans should be stained dark blue/black after picking, those are more of a red colour.

I would suggest you spore print them all before deciding them are cyans,.

Went walking today, picked up 30grams P. cyans & found my first few cubes for the season, only about 5grams. there were a lot of cube pins forming but if there is no more rain they will abort :BANGHEAD2:.

Found lots of cyans

Would've found more but the cows were getting a bit spooked

I guess I'll go for the final round tomorrow, although afternoon might be best because this morning I had cows to contend with and a lot of slow cyans. Afternoon on the first day was flush.

Were the cubes and cyans in the same place?

Hey RC they were with in a few 100 meters of each other :) , I looked at your other post & saw you are new to picking up here, you seem to have found a nice local for blue meanies . I also saw some saying you might of had a mixed bag, I can tell you today I found three different Panaeolus sp growing out of cow shit, one was more red than the other two it did not stain blue & was easy to tell apart but the other two looked very similar & were growing only meters apart, the only way I could tell them apart was to wait for the P.cyans to stain blue.

Cheers

Yeah there are a few different types out there, but the cyans are blatant to my eye. They almost already have a blue tinge to them before you even touch them.

The others there are much whiter and shorter.

The one above was definitely a cyan though, the last couple of hours has shown me that :shroomer:

Very different to subs, closer to cubes I suppose, which is probably to be expected given they have a bit of that gold in them too.

I hear on the grapevine they're fairly dud once dried for a few weeks. The walk in the sun you get out of it is most of the glory ;)

Quick question:

I saw some super tall pins this arvo as well. Just white, 10cm tall bowling-pin-like mushrooms. No colour, just the stem/fruiting body. Will they grow further into cubes, or would they be another mushroom entirely?

They'll generally have a similar cap color thru out life
