Sunburned seedlings?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

have my babies had too much sunlight? They are going red...

They arent getting any direct sun exposure, and it's been pretty bleak weather here for the last week anyway, but I'd like your advice please.

I think theyre a bit like me, 15 minutes of sun and they go pink!

yeah they're pretty small, they really don't like sun at that age at all, even dappled/indirect

put them more toward the shade and keep the humidity up

Definitely sunburnt. Lucky it is bleak weather otherwise they woulda been toast. If you have a very fine piece of white cloth chuck that over the container to soften the light further

They are not actually sun burnt...well not yet. The colour change is an adaption due to the sun light much the same as our skin will tan. This colour change does not necessarily mean the plant is damaged or in bad health for this matter, however it is telling you that the sun is having an effect on the plant and prolonged exposure will cause damage.

As a rule of thumb if seedlings get even the slightest sun burn they will turn to mush and die.

Good to know, thanks HelloNasty.

I now have them covered in white plastic over the seed tray hood and they are under a table in my pergola, so they get light, but not direct exposure. How much and when should I start giving them a bit more sun and air?
