Requesting Galangal and Valerian plants.............. to surrender

Recommended Posts

Guest Psilo_smylin

Hi

I really, realy want to grow these plants and don't know of anyone who has got them.

Can u help???

I FU*-$%! love green thai curries spicy as

SH*T!

This is an excellent ginger substitute

(so long as your not making Galangal bread men) lol and a great lust spice.

I think theres a thing with endorphines and spices as well (like chilli od's) and it makes me want more.

I have stacks of Kaemmpifera galangal ( not the culinary one but I believe it can be substituted...correct? )

Only trouble is I never get time to go outside into the garden frown.gif

Where are you Psilo_smylin ( I'm too lazy to look up your profile ). I don't feel like paying postage either, maybe its PMT or something. I'm in NSW near the conference venue...maybe someone closer has it?

Hi Darklight.

I'm in Smellbourne.

I'd be happy to work out the post thing but only if thats Psilocybe Mushroom Toxicity you meant smile.gif .

I love getting my hands dirty, but you probably don't want me digging up your garden.

And its a fair way to travel for some exotic root.

If you need any help with the garden I'll be going to Byron Bay in Easter (hopfully).

I'm looking for outdoornursery work.

C ya

Okay I have transcended grouchy and am feeling all co-operative again smile.gif

Just send me a stamped padded post bag with enough postage on it to cover 100g. I'll email you more details

Galangal is frequently available in the 'weird stuff' shelves at woolies (veg section).

Cheers Tor

We southerners call it S'way, Coles,

Bi-low, Franklins, Jewl and for the exotic shoppers (Eastern )town-mart) .

Sorry to be smart but I know its everywhere.

In Jars, in shelves in packs.

But I got whole frozen root (anchovy??*#?) from oriental stlye shop and it is mucho superioroso.

Thats why I think it should take the next step and become available in whole plant or seed(?) form on this site.

More so..

Well Torsten?

Is a nudge as good as a wink to a blind bat?

hey psilo, if you grab some whole root from an asian supermarket (or other) and just plant in good compost or heavily fertilised potting mix, should shoot in a couple of weeks in warm weather

Is cell tissue dammaged by freezing?

Would a tropical species survive cryogenisis(?).

"Torsten yes, we will have this in spring. "

Nice, but u'r in the same hemispere as me hey,

ohhh thats like six months,

roughly 180 days.

hey taxman

go to coles

thats where i buy all my prop materials (but never my green groceries!~ for that i go to the markets half hour before closing time, cheap bastard i am.

anyway you can get the following from your local coles - almost anywhere in australia that ive visited

Taro tubers (nice low oxalate imported ones)

Sweet potatoes

turmeric tubers (seasonal)

Galangal Tubers

Celeriac

jerusalem artichokes

Mushroom clone sources

Shiitake

Enoki

Oyster (plain and pink)

abalone

Jelly fungus (auricularia sp)

Tremella sp

Button,white

Button brown aka portobello

tropical fruits (for seeds with commercial quality genes albeit mixed)

Custard apple, abiu, guava, avocado, lychee, longan passionfruit etc etc

so check out your local coles

ive tried galangal but only when i was further south - no success due to the cold

but i have now got the turmeric going allright so its probbly time to ressurect a galangal

reville - if you're a fan of jerusalem artichokes, just buy two or three and plant the buggers , you'll never need to purchase again.

sorry i intended my last post to convey exactly that sorry if i worded it wrong

BTW i dont actually like'em but they have several positiev attributesothers might enjoy

windbreaks,pig fodder,insectary

they also contain inulin instead of starch cant remember why thats good but its good for somethin !

Just like to add that asian grocery stores often have interesting stuff too

such as

nice greens

basella

Kang kong (ipomoea aquatica)

Amaranth

houttynia cordata

Chinese boxthorn/wolfberry (lycium chinense)

others

Shallots

Jicama

yams

different chillies

laksa mint(polygonum sp)

lemon grass

these can all be used as prop material and in some cases you can use the bits you dont eat to grow them ie seeds ot the stems of amaranth or kangkong can be rooted in water or potting soil

several have medicinal properties too such as the wolf berry and its leaves which is good for your heart

told to me by the chinese lady whos sold the bunch to me an backed up in literature on the pahrmacology of these herbs, the leaves go well in place or with spinach
