Recommended Posts

Back in Dec 2000 'KRussell' (?) mentioned that mimosa hostilis root bark can be easily purchased. Can he or anyone else please advise from where?

Ethical harvesting here puhleeease! Use bark from branches that have fallen to the ground ( for botanical specimens only ). Consider cultivating your own plants. Last thing any endangered spp needs is irresponsible mass harvesting

First, re Darklight: Does buying it from an online supplier (say peruvianjourney.com) constitute ethical harvesting? (as I do care greatly for species preservation).

Second, is there a 100% gaurantee that customs/AQIS will not intercept this stuff (imported from US) and/or incarcerate me? :-)

Thirdly, since I only want a small (probably one-off) ammount can anybody tell me where this or any 'related' species can be located say within 100km of Sydney? (yes, Im keen and yes, Pyrotek you are right and I will do as you suggested in the future)

Or phalaris?

Thanks and please excuse my ignorance.

do not ring bark *any* native trees. if you intend to harvest native plants from the wild, please do you research and conduct your harvest as sustainably as possible.

ring barking should *not* be considered an option. ring barked trees die.

Hey Don't worry about the customs thing because you will only be sent a letter for you to claim the product they have seized or they will destroy it. Don't, I repeat don't try to claim it. I have received a letter myself for items more strongly banned then what your looking for!

Hey pyro i think tou are missing the point about not ringbarking the trees...

firste theres five then 4 then 3 thn.. you know where its going

please dont harvest the maidenii - if you must try the obtusifolia or longifolia and try it off suburban trees

and if your climetes correct you coukld do worse than to buy one packet of seed and germinate a dozen or more maideniis for planting in your local area - you dont need a backyard! just slip it into some regrowth bush or a public park - even wasteland

in a threatened population the genetic diversity is crucial to survival - unless youve doen the molecular work you never know which tree is the one with the different genes so dont assume that one tree wont matter please
