Giant pumpkin contest!!

Recommended Posts

I don't think its crankin as hard as it was....maybe goes hard then down to slow and steady

Maybe because its so big its hard to see the weight gains.

But this one may save the day...

how many days? It's going to be massive

Be 'bout 15 days set for No 2 and 'bout 35 days No 1 (?)

No 1 has had another spurt....the cool nights we've been having have slowed it up, a warm night last night

provided positive satisfying growth...lol

Best growth is supposed to be day 40 to 50 so could be a real beast in the end.

lol...it will be secrets next year  You are welcome to seeds out of these mate

These ones are

No 1 = 1166 Chappelle 11 +24% (1404 Bryson +25% x 1350 Starr +6%) - fruit it is a selfed pollination

Ugly = 1205.5 Young 11 (922 Young x 1622 Young) - fruit is a cross with the above.

I am thinking Ugly may not finish so large, but may have a fair bit of potential down the track.

Mines still lil but I'm certain it's growing now. Seen it do two growth bursts so far.

Noooo idea when (or how) it was pollinated. But the weather has picked up! Regular hot hot days have finally come onto the scene.

Vying for third... You can keep the spot warm for me HB. Will be another month or so and then I'll know if anything awesome is gonna happen or not.

Took these pics a couple days ago

Toooo hot...but the pumpkins love it....hammering the water down now

I am still getting a nice bit of growth on No 1....I was hoping for a nice orange one, but I reckon this one will be pale.

This one will be heavy, its definitely got thick flesh.

I am going to chainsaw carve a giant jack-o-lantern in this one....probably with a gas burner plumbed inside (or at least a kero lamp)...little man is gunna love it....lol

DSCF9527_zpsd5428aa1.jpg

and the ugly one has accelerated, I reckon this one will be more orange

nice coloured pumpkin teamwhy :) I really wanted an orange one.... :(

Because I can't help myself...lol....and surely this thread hasn't pissed enough people off yet

This is what two giant vines, back-to-back look like (1000L IBC Tank at back for scale).

(I am now thinking I really should have culled the ugly one...)

No.1 - the skin is getting a "canteloupe" type pattern on the skin
