How well would tropical fruit grow in the Darling Downs area (specifically around Dalby)

Recommended Posts

Pretty unique climate. Is anyone on here from around that area? Do they cope with the cold in winter?

I'm curious about plants like bananas, citrus, coconut, cocoa, jackfruit, guava.

My Neighbours have a good fruiting citris in the yard plus a young banana.I dont see many mangoes or such like when i lived in brisbane.I plan to try a few for myself but it's been a terrible summer/autum.So cloudy and wet.

Frosts my friend are going to be the limiting factor!

Coconuts and Cacao - no

Jackfruit - possibly.

nanas, guava and citrus yes.

If you are really into true tropical fruits mate up north is the place to be hey.

Cheers

Bananas such an interesting plant. Give them a go. I'd love to grow bananas and plantains.

I was planning to dig my tropical trees into the ground against a northern wall and cover them in winter. Like a walipini, I reckon if I built a big one I could get away with a bit more.
