(WA) Drug-fuelled 'doof' parties go unnoticed

A SECRET drug culture is bubbling just beneath the surface in the Perth Hills.

Doofs - similar to rave parties - are operating illegally in deserted areas of State Forest in the region.

The underground culture, which had its origins in the hippy communes in northern NSW and south-east Queensland in the ‘70s, is growing in popularity.

More than 2000 people attended a dance party, or doof, in the Hills over the Easter long weekend, where revellers allegedly consumed large amounts of alcohol and illicit drugs, including the hallucinogenic LSD, ecstasy and cannabis.

The doofs typically involve a massive sound system playing loud, bass-heavy electronic music. It is for this reason they are usually held in deserted places where police interference is unlikely.

The isolation of doof sites, which are often several kilometres from the nearest populated area, makes their policing almost impossible.

Neither the Department of Environment and Conservation, which manages WA’s State Forests, nor WA police are aware of the illegal Hills doofs.

A police spokesman said Drug Squad detectives “have never heard about these incidents”.

Yeh, that sounds factual ...

I think the WA doofers would agree that police presence is not uncommon now days and becoming ever more frequent.

Recreational drug use is commonplace – mostly LSD, ecstacy and cannabis. But there is cocaine, speed, MDMA and methylone too.

These guys know their drugs!

The Hills Gazette condemns the use of illicit drugs and trespassing on Crown land.

How does one trespass on crown land?

Just wait till they find the secret heroin festivals, i once saw a heroin doof with just over 9000 people attending, there were at least 13 shootings but you don't see that in the papers!

Most of the heroin parties i've heard of lately have been taking place in the sewers though, they've found that most police don't patrol the sewers so they can play loud dub music without any interference.

Journalists have a habit of calling any kind of pill ecstasy when ecstasy is MDMA. Then when some poor soul dies from taking some other substance, such as PMA, then the media blame it on ecstasy/MDMA when the blame should be on PMA. If someone had their alcoholic beverage spiked with PMA then overdosed and died you wouldn't start blaming bottles of beer.

It's bureaucratic fear of dismantling of materialistic consciousness...seems like these doofs are a good arrangement for everyone, should be a positive thing?

Were there any violent incidents?

Was any harm done?

Was anyone taken to hospital?

Or was it just a group of people getting together to have fun out in the bush and listen to loud music?
