Cow poo Shrooms! ID please

Question

Went for a walk this morning (s/e QLD) & came across a couple of shrooms that I would like help with IDing. I have put them into groups, they were all found growing in manure.

This first lot have all stained blue

After doing some quick research I am thinking the first lot are P.cubensis. The second ones are P.coprophila or with there new name Deconica coprophila & the third ones I am still not sure. Just waiting for the experienced members to chime in with there knowledge.

In the top left hand pic I'm 99% sure the 2 on the left and the small one on the right with the gill cap ring on the stem are cubes. The two smaller ones in the middle and long skinny one probably are but can't be sure.

The colour, dark gills, blue bruising and that ring around the stalks point to cubes.

Thanks guys ,

I just had another question, the bigger ones don't seem to bruise blue that much (just a slight blue hew) but the little ones go very dark blue/purple with the slightest of bumps, Is this normal? The bigger they are the less they change colour?

Are you sure that all of those in the first photo bruised blue (and didn't just get some juice on them from being in a bag with the smaller cubes)? Because those larger ones look an awful lot like Stropharia rugosoannulata - which is a tasty edible, I think some people around here were looking for prints.

Hey Anodyne,

I am still wondering about the bigger one's (the two biggest & medium size one in the top photo & the four in post #4 that i got later that arvo) for the simple reason that they did not turn blue like the little ones. Like you said maybe the blue I could see on them had come from the little ones, the second lot in post #4 did not change blue at all. I am only new to working out wild mushrooms & would love some help with these, one of the big ones was growing out of the same poo as two of the little ones that went blue, this made me think it just is a bigger one & maybe as they get bigger they don't stain blue so easy? All of them came from cow poo & look the same as the first be one so I was thinking they must be cubes (I was told assumption is mother of all fuck ups ).

I had a quick look about Stropharia rugosoannulata, I could not see anything about them in Australia & said they grow on woodchips, like I said it was a quick look & I would love to hear the facts, would they be found in s/e QLD & would they grow in cow poo?

I still have the big ones in the fridge & can try to make a print if that helps or if the turned out to be S.rugosoannulata & someone close by knows how to make good prints I would be happy to get more & share them around :). I only ask for help because I would not want to F@#k them up.

Cheers

Stropharia rugosoannulata do grow in Australia. I'm confused about the references to them growing on woodchips - I've seen them in NNSW, and definitely in cowshit - maybe they just like nutrient-rich areas, rather than needing dung per se? :scratchhead:Here's the thread about them, anyway.

Although what bullit says is true too, I think you may have 2 or 3 different species in those first photos - some are definitely cubes, but maybe not all - one of those smaller ones could be a panaeolus from that photo, and I think your 2nd batch are also some kind of pan.

Thanks everyone for the help, like I said I new to IDing these & to have all your help is great :worship: !

@Anodyne, like I said I only had a quick look, Wiki & the next three down all said they grow on woodchips & none of them gave reference to Australia? Even the thread you added has a wiki thread saying that, thats why I am glad to be a member of this great place, so all of you knowledgeable people can set things strait & tell the real facts.

Thanks again

I have heaps of Wine Caps (Stropharia rugosoannulata) growing out of woodchips around here (SE QLD) at the moment. Been eating them. Most of them have been the albino/alba form which have a more earthy/stronger flavour. If anyone wants prints or some mycelium filled chips let me know.
