I can assure you it's not a graft, looks like a normal bridgesii column then turns into a TBM like growth. Pretty sure it was just purchased as a 'semi-monstrose' bridgesii. These are the only other pics I had of it.

Whole crop of variegated Astrophytum seedlings...probably 75% variegation and 25% that lack all chlorophyll

From cross of myriostigma cv. kikko nudum variegata X myrio cv. hakujo fukuryu

Hopefully I'll have plenty of seed from this cross available next season for a giveaway...already pressed for space as it is

imho it just didnt turn into TBM like growth on its own, look at the reduced girth and scarring at the top of the normal growth.

more than likely that particular stem will remain monstrous, but new pups from the base will be normal growth

I have seen penis cactus throw normal/semi montrose pups, this could possibly be one of those that has reverted to penis growth?

I will be interested to see what it does, as I have seen normal bridgesii get melty from stress like a small pot but not a full blown TBM looking top. I think it may have terminated so the top will probably pup from the lone aerole. I will keep y'all updated on progress but it'll be slow since it is probably dormant now

I've never been lucky enough to grow a dichotomous Loph from seed either. I imagine they'd go crazy over that on ebay in a few years.

Well in the spirit of funky seedlings, here are a few more

Yellow indicates this weirdo that decided not to grow a head, and Blue is another double header, much younger than the first one above, Both are Astros
