Ffs. I'll post more later.

Edit - I don't know why the picture uploader on the full site insists on posting these sideways.

Started a new tray of seeds I like to call Capt. Mutato! Anways their just Pachanoi seed that had a monstrose parent but for some reason I don't get any crests or mutations from my TPQC crosses, but to be fair I've only tried 2 varieteis and germed about 150 seeds. These I get 30-40% mutation rate. Sorry for pics and lighting gotta grab a proper flash for camera. I removed about 1o larger seedlings that were getting too big and some showed monstrose some not but all healthy. Then this is the rest of the tray in finishing school to go out into sun hardenning this week.

My Astrophytum coahuilense was perfectly normal when I bought it - then in 2011 it started to produce pups from the growing point - the pups had spines initially, which this species does not have. Today the pups now totally obscure the main stem.

one of my A.coahuilense did that after damage to the tip.. Never seen it again in astros, they usually die when tip is fucked.

There should be two types of crested myrtillo in the US. The normal large form and the 'Elite' form which is smaller and more dense growing when it crests. There is also a crested form that is just making its way from Europe that looks kinda like an elite crest but less spines. I think they call it strictum crest, reminds me of a TBMC and a myrtillo crest.

That mytrillo is just 1 plant, was purchased as the 'Elite' form which is supposed to be smaller. I repotted the plant recently into a much bigger container and the fans are resembling more of the typical common myrtillo crest now, which you can see in the newer growth.

Very interesting.. Is the "Elite" a US name? You're in US, myelo?

Up to now I was thinking that the 'dense form' was not a geometrizans, and not even a myrti. Compared to the other form more common in europe, its full cresty and not the melty type of monstrosa growth and its quite faster too. Myeloblast specimen reveals that not only its a myrti, its probably a geometrizans too!

I have too noticed the occasional pup with regular growth but tiny stature. I have even rooted those segments , and after a while the column pupped again regular pups, I rerooted them as well.. Very curious if they would revert some point...

The explanation I can give is the bed (a huge container?) the cactus is in. How long has it been there? It would be cool if we could see more pics from this specimen!! Especially a close up of the column that start off tiny and then become fatter to be recognised as a geometrizans, at the right side of the specimen, if I am seeing correctly.

Yes I'm in US, seems like the cultivar name 'Elite' is mostly a US thing.

The plant has been in the new pot just a few months, maybe August? It's a 10 or 12 inch square
