Yeah, it's probably just a giant root ball stuffed into that tiny pot.

The powder is dusting sulfur to keep thrips and mites away

And I've found that big cacti seem to be able to still grow in smaller lots than you'd think.

I didn't realize it kept thrips and mites away. That's great to know.

Diatomaceous earth dusted on a plant will kill any little creature with an exoskeleton on contact. Not sure how sulfur works though.

Looks like a pachanoi crest/monstrosa

Yeah when pachanboi crest/mosnter ceases to make areoles its one of the best phases of these plants.

If this scaling is short-tiled, this is what I have called "reptile skin"

beautiful specimen, keep us udpated: did it go normal? did it go crest? did it continue monster column growth?

sulfer is a miticide and fungicide

Seems to do the job on thrips also.

Mytrillocactus geometrizans crest, labeled as 'Elite' clone for its miniature size

post-14425-0-63808600-1390582607_thumb.j

Anyone know if this will grow out to a normal myrtillo crest if given ample light and ferts? I'd prefer it to stay miniature...

awesome specimen. you did not tell us how long you got it and in what lighting it has been exposed.

I have few experiences with these plants as they are quite new comers for me, even though I have grown the breast cactus for some time. I suspect there might be two clones, one a normal crest and one more "melty". I dont know if there are two crest/monsters, apart from what I call "melty" .

Time will tell I suppose, but myrtillocacti love light, so....

If I were you I would cut it like a son of bitch and create many new plants and keep half in dimmed light to creat the miniature effect and the rest to full light... but hey dont do this: I am hacking maniac and this is an awesome specimen.

Make sure your house is in order mate other wise one day one of these could bite you on the arse big time.

Have a read of this thread if you haven't already. http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=35583&page=1

Beautiful plant. Please propagate it so other Aussies get the chance to grow such a rarity. :)

Cheers

Haha dw it will be in Australia... only through legal ways though.. I wouldn't want to jeopardise such a rare plant or my garden, but I've got a few propagation schemes going on to spread some sexy freaks around Aus! Just give me a year or so and we'll be rolling in freaks here :P

Cool would love to hear how it is possible to get this in legally.

I didn't want to sound like a twat but I would have hated to see someone else lose their collection. :)

Cheers
