mutant Posted March 12, 2015 used to be one of my favourite specimens to leave un-chopped, the spiderimite fucked it up alright. its still sweet though.. thinking of a nice ground spot hard-as-fuck grown seedlings of nitro crosses pacycereus either pringlei or pecten and ... ta taaaaa stetsonia coryne x2 and azureocereus something or what ooooh, dont be too jealous, I paid a lot for these 3 ==== and by the way, I got sent by an awesome dude and mate what circulates in australia as a peruvianus crest... this is really different than what I already have, and I am eager to see how it grows... I haven't seen many peruvianus crests that do look like peruvianus except from australia... then again its that old mistake, when people called what I call kada strain , a pachanoi monster/crest, a peruvianus again I am very willing to see my own specimens to note spine length, growth of speed, and the essential blueing, if it is really a peruv (?) why dont we talk about this?
Getafix Posted March 22, 2015 Just a photo update on my Nitrogen seed grown mutants. Pretty proud of my efforts here. these are 2.5yrs old seed grown on their own roots. Are super hardened and have come through another hard summer in full sun looking great. I am going to put these into huge ceramic pots over the Autumn and grow them in my courtyard. Will post some pics once I have it done. Enjoy Getafix

Myeloblast Posted April 6, 2015 It's like Spring Break in Cancún at your place mutant, love all the boobs. Ariocarpus agavoides x fissuratus v. lloydii. First picture taken 1/31/15, second picture same plant today. The growth point on this plant looked like a smooth, raised red donut at first, kinda like the pup at the bottom of the first pic. Going to be interesting watching this continue to develop. scapharostrus x lloydii v. major hybrid retusus v. frumdosus x fissuratus v. lloydii hybrid. Was initially a single headed normal looking graft that I regrafted to a larger stock. Decided to keep the cut stump, it threw out a bunch of pups some of which are slightly variegated and one last variegated fissuratus hybrid, don't know the exact cross on this one
Maxuel Powers III Posted April 13, 2015 (edited) A couple of my mutated Pachanoi seedlings. 4 months old indoors, averaging 1.5-2 inches in height. Sorry I don't have better pics now but I will take some with my pro camera soon. If you could see that test batch of 50 seeds did great. Ended up with a 35% mutation rate from full crests, to what looks like Quazi crests with tons of pup like growths all over them. But out of all the seeds 35% had some sort of mutation showing with in 3 months of sprouting. In the second pic in the back center a nice full crest from one tip on the dirt to the other tip being in the dirt has formed but is a lil blocked. mutant Posted April 14, 2015 awesome ! your eulychnia's new shoot seems to start doing the spiral thing: its supposed to be one of the rarest expressions of the plant
Philocacti Posted April 14, 2015 The guy who gave it to me told me that if cut, the chances that it'll pup the monstrose form about 1/3 or 2/3 it'll pup a crest. Is this your experience too?
mutant Posted April 15, 2015 I dont have these plants long enough to claim I have an experience. but I have both a crest and a spiral for a year or so I dont think your man was very accurate in what he said crest is also supposed to be a rare formation.. there are 4 forms spiral disc-shape crest normal monstrosa the normal monstrosa is by far the commonest according to cactus art.. Berengar Posted April 15, 2015 That 'normal' monstrose castanea is the only one I'd consider growing, it actually looks quite nice as far as monstuoses go. I recently saw 10-15 cm spiral castanea for 5-8 euro, is that a good price for those plants?
