Swiper Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) Hey Dreamwalker, I bought 10 seeds as cereus peruvianus monstrose, 4 germinated, 2 seem plain CP, one went monstrose as pictured, the other one I have given away looks like fairy castles, heaps of small columns. Cheers ! Edited February 6, 2014 by Swiper
prier Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) These plants were grafted about 5-6 years ago. original scion was variegated, quickly reverted under shade. This year I put them out in full sun and they have gone yellow. looks kinda shit in my opinion but freaky none the less. Also there was originally three. someone bought one of me at the last outdoor EGA, if you're on here I'd love to know how your plant is going. Myeloblast Posted February 7, 2014 Prier, those variegated lopho's may not be the prettiest among other variegates but they are stil beautiful in their own right. Kinda reminds me of koh-yo in astro's that change color with the seasons. Ariocarpus are said to be able to exhibit the same phenomenon. Wonder if it will change any more in time...cool plants! mutant Posted February 8, 2014 (edited) I dont know why you're saying these variegatas are ugly but the note on them becoming normal in shade, is pretty fucking interesting. on the arizona snowcap, I have seen such deformities in my plant as well. well time will tell... ! here's some of mine, after the disastar PS: hey myeloblast - wut a name , lol this is an awesome myrti crest man, but you showing the wroing way man... I wish I had kept my own root myrticrest uncut... NOT, I have 3 more now and the scar is begining to hide by the new growth but I am an obsessive propagator, some time I will chose fine specimen and not mess with it. I have done this with at least 2 (or maybe 4) of my pachanoi monsters, you know this is some kind of a monster oath... EthnoGuy85 Posted February 11, 2014 Looks to be dropping some ribs and the spots look like sunburn from water droplets refracting sunlight
dawnbeaver Posted February 11, 2014 The spots appear to be growing out from the tip, one can just be seen as a deformed patch in the bottom photo on the rib nearest to the camera. It's never been top watered.
AZS Posted February 11, 2014 How long have you had it? Are you over fertilizing i.e. too much nitrogen?
nut Posted February 11, 2014 I think that crested obesa is actually a crested e.valida, anyone else ? I would kill for a crested obesa.
dawnbeaver Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) How long have you had it? Are you over fertilizing i.e. too much nitrogen? I grew it from seed it's about 3. Could well be too much N but I've potted and treated it just like many others from the same batch and it's the only unusual one. djmattz0r Posted February 11, 2014 I have had random light spots on certain cacti, both trichs and lophs that seemed to appear and then fade without a trace. I always attributed it to lighting conditions as that's when they seemed to fix themselves after I moved them to a different location. All just a guess though <shrug> as I first thought it was a fungal infection or insect damage. On to some freaks: Here's a cutting off my TPM X SS02 "Terence" that I put in the ground and hopefully will have some awesome growth from it soon. A crested san pedro I put in the ground as well, hoping it starts to grow again as most of the crest has stalled and only the right side is actively growing.
AZS Posted February 11, 2014 I grew it from seed it's about 3. Could well be too much N but I've potted and treated it just like many others from the same batch and it's the only unusual one. I have a PC that starts to look a little like that with too much N - It won't hurt to cut back for several months to see if it clears up. Also, the monstrose Pach goes nuts with N
hostilis Posted February 11, 2014 I think that crested obesa is actually a crested e.valida, anyone else ? I would kill for a crested obesa. I'm prettysure i see some remnants of definite euphorbiaceae flowers on one of the pups in the back.
myco Posted February 11, 2014 does anyone in W.A. have euphorbia obesa ? I've seen a few come up on CC's but they say they cant send them to W.A. i assume its because of their weed status not that i can see them growing like a weed here
upside Posted February 11, 2014 It's down here myco, there may be a couple still available? I'll find out next time I go over.
nut Posted February 11, 2014 Yep euphorbia obesa doesn't have the persistent peduncles,as the say on cactus art, like the euphorbia valida does.thats what I'm seeing in the top left of plant.
hostilis Posted February 11, 2014 Oh okay. I thought you were mistaking it for an echinopsis. Nevermind then.
