Myeloblast Posted January 26, 2014 mutant: I've had it about 4 months, first in partial shade now under fluoro's for the winter. I've thought about chopping it up since the day I got it, but haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet. I'll probably graft a column or two in the spring to see how it grows with a vigorous boost.
Snowfella Posted January 27, 2014 Not really much of a freak but still somewhat interesting on one of my Echinopsis.Thinking this is an offset that changed it's mind and turned flowerbud, since flowered out but seems to still be growing.
Jox Posted January 27, 2014 That seem odd Snowfella, Do you think it was a young pup that has flowered or could it be a fruit maturing? Cheers Jox
Snowfella Posted January 27, 2014 Not sure to be honest, though it isn't unheared of for offsets to randomly change their minds and turn into a flower or vise versa. Here's what it looked like mid bloom, far right flower.
mutant Posted January 27, 2014 hey could it start being a flower bud and then change its ming and do a pup? It happens in Selinicereus some times, and first time I saw it I mistook it for a chimera (lol!) - strange thing is that indeed it seem to have flowered.. and also make a pup. Cool! thanks for sharing
Swiper Posted February 1, 2014 2 year old seed grown bridgesii (200mm pot) going a bit strange .....
mutant Posted February 1, 2014 ^^ nice one, seems to have shaky ribs, awesome to have see-sown this, excellent specimen man we gotta make a thread to show and compare semi-monstrosa bridgesiis. there seems a lot of such gene is around... what about crossing a pachanoi crest mother plant to a semi-monstrosa bridesii?
djmattz0r Posted February 2, 2014 sounds like a wonderful cross... I have both so maybe in a few years. what type of semi-monstrose bridgesii though?
zelly Posted February 2, 2014 Snowfella, I see that situation happen infrequently on a pc pach I have. Starts out as a pup, immediately turns into a flower. Well this yr I managed to pollinate the flower, so now I have a fruit. here's a column that Y branched and exhibits monstrous growth, with one side going crested .... and heres another column that went crested

AZS Posted February 2, 2014 OK - I grew a thousand Trichocereus Terscheckii from Mesa Garden a few years ago and got one freak. A lot of people may think it's just a hybrid (which it could be) however it grows less than an inch taller each year! All of the true-to-form Terscheckii are bursting out now at 4-6+ inches and really going but this one is incredibly slow! Not sure what to do with it ... guess I'll keep it around for a while to see how it turns out. (yes, it's fertilized!)
zelly Posted February 2, 2014 how is that little thing holding that giant crest up haha other than the fact that both sides have nearly identical biomass....new growth on both 'wings' seems to be heading downward instead of upward, so it should get real interesting in the next few years. nice plant azs, thanks for sharing.

It looks awesome It will probly grow down till it hits the ground and then start throwing roots I had a small pach crest that did something similar it grew out to one side once that eventually hit the ground it started to throw roots While still having a raised piece in the middle not touching the soil Since it was only small i decided to chop it in half and had 2 rooted pieces ready to plant
selfsufficient Posted February 3, 2014 Wow, this is my favorite thread! Zelly, that thing is a beast! I got a t. Pachanoi crest in the mail today from Italy. Sold as trichocereus pachanoi f. crest. Just a little guy, but I like the look of it a lot. I also have what I think is a cereus peruvianus monstruosa, but that's tentative, it looks a lot like the myrtillocactus shown earlier in this thread...
selfsufficient Posted February 3, 2014 Is the f. just for forma? As in forma cristata?

Dreamwalker. Posted February 5, 2014 Cereus peruvianus monstrose seed grown. Was it seed from a cross between 2 monstose parents.......or straight cereus seed that threw out a monstrose?
